Enjoy just under 10 miles of off-road trails open to mountain biking and hiking situated on 137 acres of private land in the heart of Winona Lake, Indiana. Overseen by trained volunteers working under the guidance of Kosciusko County Velo, a local IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) approved cycling club. The Winona Lake Trails officially opened in 1996 after local cyclists began puttin

g together loops through the woods that once housed the old Chicago Boys Club Camp that was opened in 1902. After the camp closed down in the latter half of the century, the land was purchased by Dane and Mary Louise Miller. In the mid-90s the Miller's gave approval to local cyclists that had formed the Winona Lake Trails Association, now Kosciusko County Velo to finalize and maintain the current trail system. The Winona Lake Trails have grown in popularity as organizations and events like the DINO series, Planet Adventure, and the Fat & Skinny Tire Fest have all hosted mountain biking and trail running events on the trails. Now with the Heritage Trail (part of the Lake City Greenway) framing the north and west side of the trails, the Winona Lake Trails are enjoyed by hundreds of locals and visitors every month. Opened year-round (weather permitting), the trails are a gem in the center of the Winona Lake community which provide great opportunities for outdoor recreation in a wonderful plot of woods near the Village at Winona and Grace College that traverse the rolling hills around Cherry Creek. Participants can find trail conditions on the website (www.winonalaketrails.com), and must follow all user rules; including the trail directions (different for mountain bikers and hikers), when the trails are closed due to conditions, or closed due to events, and that mountain bikers must be wearing helmets. PLEASE KEEP DOGS ON LEASHES, AND CLEAN UP AFTER THEM. AND PLEASE, NO STROLLERS OFF THE GREENWAY AND ON THE OFF-ROAD TRAILS. These create dangerous situations for potential collisions! Volunteers are welcome to join us in maintaining the trails. No experience necessary - we will train you.

TRAIL UPDATE: With near record rains and gusty winds the first week of April, we’ve got some clean up to do. But first, we need patience, because the trails will remain closed for an extended period of time due to down trees and limbs, but more importantly because of significant flooding. Several sections are underwater, as are some culverts and bridges. They are taking a beating. We’ll need more time to check everything, clean-up, and repair damage. And right now, we shouldn’t have to be asking people to exit the trails when the trail status online says closed, all the trail gates are closed, and conditions are like they are. The off-road trails are currently closed to hikers, walkers, runners, bikers - all human beings except authorized and experienced trail crew volunteers working.

Please remember that the trails are on private property. They are not a public park. Thus it is critical that all trail users abide by posted rules which state to only use the trails when they are open. We must respect the wishes of the land owner that graciously allows the community and visitors to enjoy the trails.

Additionally, it’s a respect issue… the trails are maintained by local volunteers that sacrifice hours of their own hiking, running, or riding time to keep the trails in great condition. It’s not cool to have to fix torn up sections of trail because someone is selfish or disrespectful.

Even on days when the sun peeks out for a bit, that doesn’t mean they’re open. Even when mushrooms might be ready. Even if you think they only close for bikes. When the trail status online (social media and website - winonalaketrails.com) is red and says closed, and the gates at entrances are closed, that means the trails are closed to all users.

Please be patient! We get it! We want to be out there, too. In fact, sometimes we are… repairing the trails, cleaning up, clearing them, trimming brush, cutting fallen trees, picking up trash, etc. Want to get the trails open sooner when conditions allow? Want to help be part of the conversation? Join one of our volunteer teams to keep them enjoyable for all, for years to come.

Please spread the word! Thank you!

With the recent K21 Health Foundation Matching Grant and the Grace College Catalyst Corridor Grant, we need to raise just $375,000 more dollars to complete the Phase 2 Fundraising goal of $1.75 million. K21 Health Foundation will match every dollar donated up to $375,000.

Phase 2 has already started with site preparation in the woods and dirt will start moving to the field in early spring. We expect to have the bike park builder on site this summer to start building the trails and features for Phase 2.

Phase 2 of the Bike Park includes progressive flow trails, jump lines, dual slalom course and more and will be completed by early 2027 provided our fundraising goal is reached.

Donations for the bike park can be submitted online through kcvcycling.networkforgood.com or sent to:
