We were thrilled to have A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center recognized with a 2026 Green Award from the Village of Winnetka for efforts in sustainable and earth-friendly projects and practices last week.

The Tennis Center’s reconstruction of seven outdoor courts include upgrades to LED lighting to reduce energy costs and minimize light pollution. 💚

🎾 History in your hand.🎾
Have you seen the new coin honoring Althea Gibson? She was the first African American woman to compete at the highest levels of both tennis and golf, helping open doors for generations of athletes to come, she reshaped what was possible for the game of tennis.

During February's Black History Month, it’s a great reminder that every player belongs - with a racket, a court, and a love of the game. 💚

🎾Happy National Play Tennis Day! Winnetka has long been a tennis town, and today we’re celebrating the generations of players who have stepped onto our courts - from kids discovering the love of the game, to friends meeting up for weekly play, historic moments to competitive tournaments. As you scroll through current and throwback photos, you’ll see just how deep our tennis roots run.

🎾Did you know the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center was one of the first indoor tennis facilities in the Chicago area when it was built in 1962?

🎾That spirit of innovation continues today as we invest in the future of the game. Our outdoor courts are currently undergoing a major reconstruction project, replacing courts that have served the community for more than 35 years. The improvements address long-standing issues of settling, cracking, and drainage, along with a refreshed court layout, new fencing, lighting and nets for an enhanced playing experience for years to come. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the project’s completion late spring.

🎾 And today, we tip our racket to all of the players who pass through our doors. See you on the courts!
