GreaterJohnstown SaddleClub The GJSC is family oriented, kid friendly, horse loving community. We continue to grow with new friends each year and look forward to upcoming events.

Our club was founded in 1961 to promote interest in equine activities. The club grounds consist of over 40 acres of beautiful wooded areas and open fields. A large all purpose show ring, pavillon with full service kitchen, and camping facilities round out the grounds. We have access to miles of scenic riding trails which are adjacent to the club grounds. We also host CPHA affiliated Horse Shows, m

onthly trail rides, and various social activities including our annual 3-Day Trail Ride the first weekend in August.

WAYNE HILLEGAS 🐴❤️🤠With great sadness we have learned that club member Wayne Hillegas passed away on Monday morning. He was a lifetime member of the Saddle Club starting in 1963. Wayne was there, through every phase, to see the club grow into what we have today. He was always around for meetings, work days, emergencies, and trail rides.
Our annual 3-Day Ride became a well-known event in Western PA because Wayne was the Chairperson for decades. Trail Boss was his other title. He always took out the long rides and knew every trail, even down to Bedford. Anyone who rode with him will remember his phrase to get ready to ride. "Five minutes!" And he meant it. If you weren't ready, well then, you had to catch up to the group when you were.
Wayne had a remarkable memory and could not only recall a person's name but who they were related to as well. He also enjoyed a good joke and could tell stories for hours.
The photo was taken in 2018 during the August 3-Day ride.
We will miss him but know he is now back in the saddle where he loved to be. 2026
