This weekend I noticed an agenda item listed for the Racine City Council meeting mentioning Shoop Park improvements as follows:
Approval of Minutes for the November 25, 2024 Meeting.
0056-25 Subject: Communication sponsored by Mayor Mason, requesting
permission for the City of Racine to negotiate and enter into an Option
to Improve and Operate Agreement as to Shoop Golf Course, with the
City of Racine granting an option to Keiser Golf Group and the Leipold
Johnson Golf Group, upon the terms presented.
The Leipold Johnson Golf Group is new to me, so I asked Travis Wells, Administrator for the Village of Wind Point if he knew what the proposal was about. His response was basically, he was unable to say.
We can only hope that the rescue of the stone steps is part of any negotiations. I had been asked by several people last year if I heard anything about Johnson's being interested in developing the park. Let's all hope that the park remains a public course and that long overdue repairs and improvements are made. The secrecy of this development leaves me concerned.

It was nice to see that someone cleaned most of the southside of the steps last weekend. They spent a considerable amount of time on that effort, and it looks very nice. Your work is much appreciated!

Today was beach cleanup day at Shoop Park. This is the current condition of the stairs as well as the driveway down to the beach.

Three weeks ago I sent an email to Senator Van Wanggaard whom I have known for over 40 years, asking to met with him to discuss this matter and other local issues. No reply at all so far. It seems like none of our elected officials are interested in talking about this or any other issue. Too many of our local historical sites are being demolished or neglected in large part thanks to the people we elected to represent us.
