Vostrikov's Academy of Ballet, in historic downtown Winchester, Virginia, has been providing quality dance training in a nurturing environment since 1982. The performing arts facility houses three fully-equipped studios and a large theater studio for performances, which provide an aesthetic environment for creating and sharing the art of dance. All levels of instruction are offered in ballet, jazz, tap, and pointe. Lyrical and modern dance classes are available to intermediate and advanced dancers. Classes are taught by highly qualified, experienced faculty who provide instruction and motivation for students to reach their potential while maintaining sensitivity to individual abilities and needs. From the moment young dancers enter our studios to performing for a live audience, they experience the rewards and challenges of a timeless tradition. They gain confidence and satisfaction by being involved in creative activities appropriate to their developmental levels. The physical conditioning and mental discipline instilled through our program enriches students’ lives and remains with them as adults. Vostrikov have graced thousands of dancers with exceptional training but have also enriched their lives far beyond the stage. Many alumni have continued with successful careers in dance and related arts, while many others excel in careers outside of the arts. The benefits acquired through their participation with VAB and VYB–including confidence, self-assurance, determination, perseverance, and comradery—are important factors of success in any profession. VAB-VYB alumni excel in such areas as law, medicine, engineering, research science, health sciences, architecture, education, business, and marketing.

✨ Help Us Keep the Magic on Stage! ✨

Behind every beautiful ballet is so much more than what you see on stage.

There are costumes to create, sets and scenery to build, choreography to prepare, lighting and audio to coordinate, props to store—and countless details that bring a production to life.

That’s where Virginia Youth Ballet (VYB) comes in. As the nonprofit performing company associated with Vostrikov’s Academy of Ballet, VYB helps provide our dancers with additional performance opportunities while bringing the joy of dance to audiences throughout the northern Shenandoah Valley.

And right now, we’re looking for 2026–27 sponsors to help make another year of performances possible! 🩰

Our annual Sponsorship Drive is VYB’s biggest fundraiser, and every sponsorship makes a difference. Sponsorship opportunities range from $250 to $1,250, with benefits including recognition in performance programs and on the VYB website, social media recognition, complimentary performance tickets, advertising opportunities, and more.

And sponsors don’t have to be businesses! Families and individuals can sponsor, too. At the Silver, Gold, or Platinum levels, you can even choose to have your dancer’s photo or your family name featured instead of a business logo or advertisement.

✨ A little volunteer appreciation…

We’re so grateful for the talented people who give their time and gifts to help make Vostrikov’s Academy of Ballet and Virginia Youth Ballet special.

Meet Heather Reed, our newest Board member—and someone who has already put her creativity to work in a beautiful way!

Heather recently volunteered to take over the shadow box outside the studio, continuing a long-standing tradition. This was her first time creating it… we think she absolutely knocked it out of the park!

Every detail was hand-drawn by Heather, and her talent and creativity shine through. We’re so excited to see what she creates for future seasons!

We’re incredibly thankful for Heather and for all of our volunteers—past and present—who have shared their time, talents, and energy with Vostrikov’s and VYB. Volunteers are such an important part of what makes our studio and nonprofit community possible.

Our final Summer Intensive Spotlight is here! 🩰✨

We’re wrapping up our summer series by celebrating Abby Russi, who spent August 3-7 training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, PA.

Intensive training gives dancers the opportunity to step into a new environment, learn from different teachers, and discover new ways of approaching their technique. For Abby, the experience brought plenty of challenge, encouragement, and growth.

“I had such an amazing time at CPYB! It was great to learn from such a variety of teachers, and the way they broke down steps was so helpful. I feel like I grew a lot as a dancer, and overall it was a fantastic experience.” — Abby R.

We’re so proud of Abby and all of our dancers who chose to spend part of their summer continuing to learn, train, and grow as artists.

And what a wonderful summer it has been! From new studios and new teachers to new friendships and new challenges, we’ve loved hearing about the experiences our dancers brought home with them. Here’s to carrying that growth and inspiration into a new season of dance! 🩵

Our next Summer Intensive Spotlight is on Emerson Parish, who returned to Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) for another week of summer training! ✨🩰

After returning to CPYB this summer, Emerson came away with plenty of new inspiration and ideas to carry into the upcoming dance season. And how fun to experience the week with friends from Vostrikov’s.

Our Summer Intensive Highlights continue! 🩰✨

This week we’re celebrating Laura Stephens, who spent August 3–7 training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, PA.

One of the greatest benefits of intensive training is the opportunity to work with different teachers and experience different approaches in the studio. For Laura, that meant new perspectives, strengthened technique, and a week full of growth — with a little humor along the way!

“Working with different teaching styles strengthened my technique. My hips don’t lie…but now they’ve been rotated to my maximum. It was a great week!” — Laura S.

Our Summer Intensive Highlights continue! 🩰✨

This week we’re celebrating Claire Johnson, who wrapped up a summer of intensive training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, PA, August 3–7.

Claire has made the most of her summer, challenging herself in different training environments and continuing to build on the work she’s done throughout the year. Her week at CPYB was the perfect way to wrap up her intensive season — with focused ballet training, familiar faces, and plenty of time in the studio.

“The great thing about going to three dance intensives this summer was getting to focus on different things at each one. This one is really great for improving ballet technique. It’s so much fun returning to an intensive with friends made from previous years, too!” — Claire J.
