On the heels of seeing some great golf during this week’s Massachusetts Amateur, our junior golfers brought their “A games” in this year’s Junior Club Championship. In fact, the opening round of the Boys Championship Division was contested on the very same course setup that our two Mass Am finalists played. Which made Will Ferrari’s first round score of 2-under par 69 even more impressive. William jumped out to a 4-stroke lead over Owen Shea heading into today’s final round. As the boys made the turn on Sunday, Owen had erased that deficit and headed to the back nine tied with William. But Owen would cease the championship on a five-hole stretch that included an eagle on the 12th hole and birdies on the 14th and 16th, finishing with a 69 and a two-round total of even par 142, only two off the tournament record. Congratulations to Owen on winning his first Junior Club Championship!
On Saturday afternoon, 18 holes were contested to determine our Girls Championship Division Club Champion. Playing the tough, Mass Am final match hole locations, Amelia Boutwell came out on top with a score of 97. Amelia finished bogey-bogey-par to overtake runner-up (and defending champ) Audrey Houllahan and 3rd place finisher Stella Shea (birdie on #9). Emma Wignell rounded out the top 4.
With the Mass Am final match being pushed to Saturday due to weather, our youngest golfers teed it up on the Wee Course. And boy did they play well! Starting in the Boys Pre-Junior Division (12 holes), Seamus Maher finished strong with a backside 24 for a total of 53 and a 5-stroke victory over Ben Albiani. In the Girls Pre-Junior Division, Liv Pandolfo fired consistent rounds of 28 and 29 for a 12-hole total of 57 and a 5-stoke win over runner-up Genevieve Chin. Emily Albiani and Quinn O’Brien tied for 3rd. And finally, in the Young Boys Division, six players finished within 3 shots of each in this 6-hole tournament. In the end, it was Warren Boutwell’s birdie on the 5th hole that helped him secure the one-shot victory over three other junior golfers, Max Albiani, Teddy Chin and Liam Wignell. Andrew Albiani and Cooper Clare finished in 5th with a 32. Congrats to all of our juniors!
