Good Morning Winchendon Lacrosse Family,
We hope everyone is off to a hot start this summer. The Winchendon Lacrosse staff is proud to share this message with you all. In the last decade, the Wapitis have slowly climbed this incredible mountain of a journey. This past season marks one of Winchendon’s best seasons in history and the scary thing is we are just getting started. Our head Coach Thomas Moorshead has been doing a spectacular job with this program in just such a short amount of time. Coach took over a Winchendon program that had just under a 15% winning average. Entering into his third season Coach Moorshead has the Wapitis just over a 50% win average and growing!!
This offseason we have made some key additions. We recently hired Michael Santos “SANTY” as our new Director of boys and girls lacrosse as well as an admissions counselor. Coach Santy brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. Coach Santos runs a very successful consulting business where he has helped dozens of athletes. Having placed a hundred plus athletes at the NCAA level, we are confident Coach will continue that here at Winchendon. Coach will be the associate head coach along with Coach Moorshead as well run the offense. He will primarily be focusing on both recruiting players from all over North America. Coach will also be helping our current athletes navigate the college recruiting process. Coach has partnered with some of the biggest club programs in America. For example Next Level (MD), Legends National (CA), Eclipse (CT), Nation United, and many more elite clubs and platforms.
This year our focus is DEVELOPMENT!! We plan on focusing on molding the whole young man and not just a lacrosse player. The program has taken steps to partner with several different programs like the One Love Foundation, to teach our athletes about healthy relationships, Morgan's Message and 15 For Life to help talk more about mental health and many more great platforms. This is in hopes of helping our boys become not only great young men but great people in society as they grow older.
Coach Moorshead and Santos have already started planning for the 2024 season. With hopes of playing a national schedule and adding an amazing ’27 class, the goal is to be in the top 50 national rankings by the end of next year. Coaches have already started the summer recruiting tour in hopes of finding the next program changer. The staff will be attending 16 total events this summer searching for some future Wapitis!!
This Fall and Winter the staff plans to completely change the off season programming. We plan on being more focused in the weight room and skill development. For example our boys will be tested various times throughout the year on strength and conditioning to make sure they are ready to play big time opponents. As for skill development we focus on more player-led practices or “Captain Practices” as well as getting our guys more involved with box lacrosse because the staff truly believes it will benefit our program's success.
The lacrosse program wants this to become a FAMILY!! We want anyone that has ever been involved with Winchendon lacrosse whether it an alumni, family members, friends of the program or even our fans to really take a big step forward with us this year. Currently the staff is planning multiple alumni opportunities and welcome back to campus ideas so we can get you all more involved. We want you all to feel like you still are a part of this family because you always will be!! The program would always love to have our alumni back on campus to speak with our current and future players.
STAY INVOLVED!!! We have just completely revamped our entire social media and platforms. We have taken the time and understood that social media has become a big part of our sport so we have added some amazing new features to our program. For example we have partnered with Kieu Media to handle our HD videography along with Fivestar Graphics to handle all edits. All of our games in 2024 will be streamed on our Facebook and Twitch so all our families can see. We have partnered with LAX.COM to design all new gear and protective gear for our boys this year and they have just opened our new boys and girls team stores, make sure you get your Summer swag!!
