🌾🦋 PROGRAM UPDATE: Yoga on the Prairie is CANCELED

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us! Due to soggy prairie conditions and the expected weather, we have made the decision to cancel Yoga on the Prairie. We’re so sorry for the inconvenience and were really looking forward to this one! 🤎

But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a little prairie magic. ✨ If the weather clears up this weekend, grab a friend — or enjoy a peaceful solo walk — and head out to Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

🦋 The monarch migration is happening now, making it an extra-special time to wander the trails, slow down, and take it all in.

And if you go, tag us in your prairie adventures! We’d love to see the views, the butterflies, and a little bit of that Midewin magic through your eyes. 🌾🦋🍂

Stay dry, friends! ☔🤎

🧘‍♀️🦋 Yoga on the Prairie just hits different in the fall. 🍂
There’s something about slowing down, taking a deep breath, and moving your body surrounded by wide-open prairie — especially as summer begins to fade into fall. 🧘‍♀️🍂

Join us for TOMORROW, for a FREE Yoga on the Prairie at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie as we welcome the season of the fall equinox. And the timing couldn’t be prettier — 🦋 monarch migration is happening now, and Midewin’s prairie is a beautiful habitat for spotting monarchs making their journey south.

📍 Meet at Iron Bridge Trail
⏰ We’ll walk into the prairie together promptly at 9:00 AM, so be sure to arrive and be ready to go!
🧘 Bring your own mat
🌾 Breathe deep. Stretch. Take in the view.
🦋 And keep an eye out for a little monarch magic.

Golden prairie. Crisp fall air. Morning yoga. Maybe a few butterflies floating by. Yeah… this is going to be a good one. 🤎

✨ FREE —we will see you there!

💚 There is always more good than bad—and this week, our community proved it.

After sharing the damage at Children’s Memorial Park, we were reminded just how incredible this community can be. Community members, local businesses, and our Park District crew stepped up, pitched in, and helped get the park cleaned up and back to being a place everyone can enjoy. 🌳

What started as a disappointing situation quickly turned into a reminder of what happens when a community cares for the places we all share.

To everyone who showed up, lent a hand, offered help, or simply shared words of support—THANK YOU. 💚 We see you, and we appreciate you.

Now, let’s get back to what our parks are meant for—playing, gathering, making memories, and enjoying them together and respectfully.

Because these parks belong to all of us. 🌳💚

PLEASE HELP US PROTECT OUR PARKS!

Unfortunately, Children’s Memorial Park was left in a condition today that is incredibly disappointing to see. Not shown are inappropriate and offensive drawings in addition to the pictures provided. This is not an isolated incident as we have been addressing issues all summer long. Our parks are here for everyone to enjoy, and keeping them clean, safe, and welcoming takes all of us.

At this time, our staff does not have the resources available today to fully address the damage and mess, but cleaning up and restoring the park will be a top priority tomorrow. If you're plans for today included visiting Children's Memorial Park, please avoid at this time.

We have exciting ideas and hopes for future renovations and improvements at Children’s Memorial Park—but when our time and resources continually have to be redirected toward cleaning up vandalism, damage, and unnecessary messes, it makes moving those improvements forward that much harder.

We also ask parents and caregivers to please actively supervise your children while visiting our parks. Encourage them to use playground equipment appropriately, respect park property, and understand that these spaces are shared with the entire community. A little supervision and a conversation about taking care of our parks can go a long way.

Please help us take care of OUR parks. If you see something happening that shouldn’t be, speak up or let us know. Encourage your kids, friends, and neighbors to respect these spaces. And most importantly, please leave our parks better than you found them.

Our community deserves beautiful parks. We need everyone’s help to keep them that way.

*Update*. This post is not pointing fingers, moreso, pay attention to how we utilize our parks and encourage others to do the same.
