A theoretical framework that specifically uses techniques to improve exercise performance and outcomes using the science of motor skill learning and attentional focus in a proprietary manner.

This video is to introduce the first essay in what I hope to be a series of essays to help people organize and build the skill of improving their maximum tolerable perception of effort thresholds in training. And I don’t necessarily mean to imply that’s a thing you can measure. It’s just meant to state that by improving your perceptual and attention capabilities, you can improve tolerance. This has been inspired by I guess what you could call the SBL for lack of a better term, but folks like (whom I owe a debt of gratitude , and others have really done a great job of explaining mechanisms of the relevant physiology separate from our cultural biases and interpretation of that same knowledge. Comment below or DME if anyone would like to have a discussion.

Most people aren’t inconsistent.
They’re operating without a reliable definition of success.

If you don’t know whether a set was “good” or “bad,”
your brain fills the gap with doubt.
Doubt turns effort into negotiation.

Good training removes negotiation.
Clear rules make effort feel honest—and honesty is what people can repeat.

Most people don’t struggle with effort.
They struggle with interpreting effort.

If every hard set feels ambiguous, people either quit too early or push too far.
Both look like inconsistency from the outside.

Good training gives effort clear edges.
When people know what “enough” feels like, they stop arguing with themselves.

Training is not a place to check out.

There are plenty of ways to relax.
This isn’t one of them.

Attention is the work.

Most people think quitting training is a motivation problem.
It’s usually a confidence problem.

When effort keeps surprising you, you stop trusting your own judgment.
You don’t know when to push or when to stop.
So eventually, you stop showing up.

Good coaching doesn’t hype people up.
It restores trust in their own effort.

Most people don’t actually fear hard work.
They fear uncertain effort.

When you don’t know whether you’re pushing productively or just grinding,
every set becomes a small gamble.
Enough gambles and people stop showing up.

Good training reduces guessing.
When effort has a clear definition, consistency stops feeling brave.

Most people think progress in training comes from adding more.
More volume. More intensity. More motivation.

But what actually keeps people training is clarity.
Clear setup.
Clear ex*****on.
Clear ending.

When the rules of the set are clear, effort stops feeling chaotic.
That’s when training becomes sustainable.

Most people don’t fail at training because they lack information.
They fail because the experience of effort keeps changing.

One day a weight feels manageable.
The next day it feels impossible.
When effort stops feeling predictable, people lose trust in the process.

Consistency doesn’t come from willpower.
It comes from making effort feel interpretable again.

Most training plans fail at the same point.
Not because the program is bad—but because the person loses trust in what effort means.

If you don’t know whether you’re one rep away or five reps away, effort turns into guessing.
Guessing turns into anxiety.
Anxiety turns into inconsistency.

Good training restores reference, not motivation.
When effort becomes legible again, consistency stops being heroic and starts being boring.
