Lake Champlain Divers

Lake Champlain Divers Scuba Dive Lake Champlain, New York and Vermont. We keep two boats in Port Douglas, New York. Let's DIVE!!!

Today I talked to a rep from Norwegian Cruise Lines about a scuba crew going out of NYC to Bermuda for diving. He is going to get back to me about what he can do. I'm starting to develop some sources within the industry that may be able to put together some itineraries for divers. I will keep you posted as to how it goes. If anyone has any ideas as to where they'd like to go let me know and I will contact the industry reps from our area.

We have got to make this dive season one to remember. Last year with the spring floods and the hurricane we lost a good part of our short season. We need to make up for it this year.

Late start for our Lake Champlain season. The unfortunate reality is the lake flooding was severe. The ramps at Port Douglas are still not in but hopefully they will be this week.

Got the first two dives of the year in. 90 feet and 50 feet. Water was suprisingly warm this time of year and visibility was outstanding. Probably always is in Grand Cayman. It was awesome being at 90 feet and knowing it was 2910 more feet to bottom. A perfect spot to test those watches that are waterproof to 3000 feet. Let's hope we are in the lakes before long.

I wish it was July and I was diving in Lake Champlain. Sure the sites where the Florida dive boats bring you are very interesting, and the water is 80 degrees with 80 feet of viz. But in Lake Champlain I feel like I could be the first person to see some of the areas we explore. There were times in Florida I felt like I needed a turn signal as divers swam by here and there. Come on dive season!!!

Another great dive on the canal boat in Port Kent today. The boat is wide, obviously over 12 feet wide, I was thinking 14. Then I research and see that the 1873 class canal boat can be 15 feet wide. Maybe next time we will measure. I also see one canal boat registered in Port Kent, named the Celia Thomas, 62.98 tonnage. I think this could be bigger though. More research to go I guess. Great dive.

Still time to get some fun dives in. I hope we get another calm day to hit Ferris Reef again. We went there with Dave and Tom and had a great dive, swam through some swim throughs, nice. Caribbean of Lake Champlain, well without the clear water and sea life.

Rescue training going well. Learned today that the proper way to deal with a diver in full panic is not a punch to the noggin. So dive with me I guarantee I will get you to safety. Not too sure about the punch to the noggin though, instincts are hard to suppress, lol. I recommend this training to all, good divers never stop learning.

Rescue diver coming this weekend for anyone with Advanced Open Water and a current CPR. Let us know if you are interested. Should be a rewarding class. My understanding from former graduates is that they say this was the most rewarding scuba instruction they have taken. Build your skills and confidence, good divers never stop learning.

Found the canal schooner sunk in Port Kent today. Awesome but cold and dark dive. At about 71 feet down to maybe about 80 feet at the bow bottom. We have some more exploring to do there. The schooner is relatively intact. The old wood stove rest on the bottom toward the starboard side stern. Have to think of lives of those who made a living aboard the vessel and how it met it's ulitimate fate, the bottom.

We got 4 more dives in, 2 more on the cliffs and 1 on Ferris Rock/Reef and 1 on Gunboat Island. Nice to dive with Dave on Ferris Rock, relaxing and fun dive. Gunboat was a little of a let down after the great dives on Willsboro and Ferris Rock but it still was a good warm dive. Practiced some skills. I wish I was diving tomorrow but work beckons......
