A few of our Tiny Otters showing off their new shirts! 🩩

Tiny Otters work on balance, coordination, listening skills, taking turns, and being a great training partner! They bring the energy and we bring the fun!

They are building confidence, body awareness, and jiu jitsu skills without even realizing how much they’re learning along the way.

Tiny Otters classes are Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:30–5:00 PM. Have a little one who might love the mats? Come try a free class and see what they think!

We’re going to need a smaller medal
 or a bigger Noah. 😂

This team medal came from the combined points of all of our competitors at a tournament a few months ago, including this guy right here.

Noah is a dedicated training partner, a tough competitor, listens to his coaches, and always shows great sportsmanship. We love watching him continue to grow on and off the mats.

Competition is never required at Riverfront, but we absolutely encourage our Otters of all ages to give it a try when they’re ready. It’s an opportunity to test what you’ve been learning, challenge yourself, build confidence, and learn that win or lose, you can be proud of stepping out there and doing your best.

And sometimes you get to wear a medal almost as big as you are. 🩩

Almost 60+ years of mat time between these 3.

Different paths brought each of them to jiu jitsu, but all these years later, they’re still here training and improving together. Ask any of them and they’ll tell you that earning a black belt didn’t mean they were done learning. In a lot of ways, it meant they were just getting started.

That’s also why you’ll find black belts teaching our beginner classes at Riverfront. The fundamentals aren’t something you learn once and move on from. They’re the foundation of everything we do, and there is always a way to make them better.

No matter what belt you wear, there’s always more to learn.

This one is a hard one.

This Saturday, Daniel is heading to Houston to start an exciting new chapter, and while we’re so happy for him, it’s hard to imagine Riverfront without him.

Daniel has never been “just a member.” He’s family. He’s been an incredible training partner, an amazing coach to our kids, the person who’s always willing to help however he can, and of course... Billy’s favorite uke.

He’s made a lasting impact on the gym and on so many of the people who train here. Whether you’ve rolled with him, learned from him, or just spent time talking after class, you know exactly the kind of person he is.

We’re going to miss him more than words can say, but we couldn’t be more excited to watch him take on this next adventure.

If you’ve trained with Daniel, come help us send him off tonight at our Goodbye Open Mat from 5:30–7:00 PM. We’d love to fill the mats one more time before he heads to Texas.

Houston is lucky to have you. You will always have a home at Riverfront. 💙

Reminder! Our new kids schedule starts next week, and we’re excited to welcome even more Otters to the mats. 🩩

We’re especially excited to launch our brand new Tiny Otters program and add another class each week for our Little Otters and Otters programs. These changes give our students even more opportunities to learn, build confidence, and have fun with their teammates.

Please take a moment to double check the updated class schedule in BJJ Link before heading to the gym next week.

One of the most common things we hear is, “I’m worried I’ll hold the class back.”

The truth is, you won’t.

Every single person on our mats had a first day, and we all remember what that felt like. That’s why we pair new students with experienced training partners who are happy to answer questions, help you learn at your own pace, and make sure you feel comfortable and safe.

You don’t need to know anything before you walk through the door. You don’t need to “get in shape first.” You don’t need to worry about slowing anyone down.

Our job is to meet you where you’re at and help make jiu jitsu work for you and your goals.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time to start, this is your sign.

Your first class is free. We’d love to meet you.

These smiles say it all! They dubbed themselves “The Silver Squadâ€đŸ„ˆ

One of our biggest goals is to help kids enjoy competing. We want them to learn when it’s time to practice, when it’s time to compete, and that both are important. In class, we remind them that no one is trying to “win” practice. Practice is where we learn, make mistakes, and help each other get better. Competition is where we get to test what we’ve been working on.

These 4 had an incredible first tournament, and the best part? They all left excited to do it again.

Jiu jitsu teaches kids that being brave is more important than being perfect. That confidence, resilience, and willingness to keep trying carry far beyond the mats, and those are lessons that last a lifetime.
