1. James Madison:

2. Alexander Hamilton:

3. John Adams:
• “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” - Letter to John Taylor, 1814
4. Thomas Jefferson:
• Though Jefferson was more favorable towards democracy, he did express concerns about its potential excesses: “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”
5. Benjamin Franklin:
• “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” (This quote, while popularly attributed to Franklin, has no direct source and is considered apocryphal, but it reflects the sentiment often associated with his views.)
