Team CRE fields the Achilles Radial backed CRE01-R sports car in the NASA WERC Series. The CRE01-R is a Miata-based prototype sports car designed around being light as well as ultimate performance. "The US Air Force NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill is the premier endurance event in the USA for prototype and new concept vehicles," Ron Cortez, team manager said. "You can't enter a new concept vehicle in
any of the world's existing endurance venues, not Le Mans, Daytona, nor Sebring. All of the existing venues have pre-set rules. The NASA concept of accepting new creations, modified existing cars or even stock spec cars under one rule package is very unique. Allowing creative types to attempt to think outside the box and to compete against existing technology with backyard engineering is just plain cool! The thrill of the challenge is to come up with a better idea and then prove the idea/concept. NASA allows us to do this as long as the vehicle is safe. Drivers will include Oscar Jackson Jr., Dean Thomas, and Rob Rodriguez. The team is dedicating their effort to longtime friend Tommy Olivier, "Tommy O," who recently passed away. Our first goal will be to finish and secondly to win." Cortez added that "We are taking an age-old concept of a light weight and fuel-efficient car to run against the high horsepower, inefficient and heavier established cars, like the Porsche Cup car, BMW E46 and E36 race cars as well as the very reliable Mazda Miatas. We are using a light-weight chassis and body with a proven drive line."
