Now y’all know, I know my food. And y’all know I get down with good eats! Today, I went to La Cocina De Irma Restaurant in Little Village decided to try their Menudo. It’s a unique way in which they cook it and it’s supposed to be one of the best in the city.

Mind you, this is the first time I had it! Ever. Usually the smell of it turns me off. This one did not have that gamey, foul smell to it.

All I know is this, I’ll be back. 1000%. The soup was just the icing on the cake. Everything I had there was amazing! And it’s really cool to hear how the restaurant got started!

Listen, if you’re in Chicago, I highly highly suggest you come here!

I’ll tell you right now, I know that this volleyball match at Wrigley has already been delayed twice. The courts are terrible. Chicago on Labor Day weekend, it’s going to be humid. Especially in the evening when we’ve been humid literally all summer.

I know if that was my players, I’d be like yeah, we’re not doing this.

Part two tonight of how you can be successful in season as a volleyball player! And realistically, any fall athlete that’s playing right now.

Takis and Starbucks aren’t your friends. Nor is Celsius.

This is awesome advice. Take it.

You know you can still train hard in season right? You can actually make gains in season. I’ve done it. I’ve done it with plenty of athletes. Yes, you have to play with the volume and intensity. But it can be done!

On top of it so many of y’all make the fatal mistake of working hard in the spring and in the summer just to completely give up training in the fall. That doesn’t make sense. You will regress. And the likelihood that you’ll get hurt will go up.

Take care of your bodies. Get them stronger. I feel like I say this every year like a broken record. It’s because y’all keep making the same mistakes.

Building your body up and then hoping for the best ain’t the game plan. You gotta get to work, baby!

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the fact that there is a GLP-1 medication being advertised on the courts, I would imagine probably all over the stadium they’re playing in, and with the issues that we are having with young ladies and body image… why does this particular sponsorship not sit well with me?

And I’m not even somebody who is against GLP-1 in general. But at a women’s college volleyball match? Why?

37 was a great year for me. Everything that I wanted to do and said I was going to do I did. Got my own place. Took better care of my health. Completed two BIG projects (more on the way there).

38, feeling great!

I’m going to just impart a few things I’ve learned this year:
1. Not everybody wants to see you succeed. That’s OK. Do it anyway. And some people that you thought had your back, maybe they don’t. That’s OK too. If you’re doing the right thing, and you’re doing it for the right reason, it always comes back tenfold for you.
2. I don’t necessarily care to be right. I care about getting it right.
3. Most people live in fear. They’re afraid to take chances. Take them. That’s how you grow. What’s the worst that can happen, it doesn’t work out? Who cares. You’ll find your next game plan within the missed. You don’t lose if you learn.

Anyway, I gotta go eat this brownie. Party on. 😏

First off, what is VBT? Think of it as a speedometer for lifting. This tracker tells me how fast I’m moving the weight, not just how heavy it is.

On my second and third reps, I was around 0.7 meters per second. Based on what I’m trying to accomplish today (and for the program), that tells me I’m getting toward the bottom end of the speed I want.

Could I keep lifting? Probably. But the goal isn’t just to finish the weight. The goal is to move the weight with pace and grace!

Once the speed tells me that quality is starting to fall off, I’m done. And that’s the cool part about having this tracking capability: I can see in real time when it’s time to cool the Jets.
