One thing weāve learned through FOUR generations of Barrett Racing now is itās NOT for the faint of heartā¦
Friday was our FIRST day of kindergarten so we knew we were up against a tired 5 year old going into a double header yesterday.
Friday night was a long one of practice & perfecting the car
Saturday left us in the scorching Georgia š heat for 12+ hours
Pierce started strong with the FASTEST qualifier in race #1 and 2nd fastest in race #2
Starting off race #1 Pierce smoked his opponents and eventually caught up to lap trafficā¦.our biggest stressor when youāre a fast car & a young rookie š„µ
When attempting to pass we spun out & things went šš»
Letās just say losing your first place spot over a lap car really STINKS
We still managed to pull off a podium finish and take home 3rd š„
Race #āš¼we started 2nd with high hopes of a win!
But we were facing a tired kid, eager driver and a fast carā¦
Pierce is an aggressive driver. Anyone who watches him knows that about him. Most races itās in his favor. But sometimes not so much.
Off the track heās calm, kind, smiling & sweet.
But that helmet goes on & he is LOCKED in & chasing a checkered š
He doesnāt come to PLAY
He brought home 4th place out of 8 cars
Definitely not what we hoped for but we learned a lot from both races
šNEVER (maybe) do a double header again (especially after the 1st day of kindergarten) š¤Ŗ
šgrowth as a driver & learning from wins & losses
šHeās FAST. Eager. Fearless. Aggressive & has one goal. WIN.
štrue sportsmanship
šour RACE FAMILY is everything & we couldnāt do it without them
šhe is only FIVE šš¼ Most kids canāt even ride a bike without training wheels. Tie their shoes. Or ride in a car without a booster seat yet.
Yet we expect so much out of him in his short 6 months of racing.
ALL of his competitors are older than him. Some of them as much as 5-8 years OLDER. Kids who have had years more track time & maturity.
This isnāt Tball. Or another team sport where you get a trophy ājust becauseā. Or feel the losses & wins as a team.
This is a 5 year old behind the wheel of a fast car with so many expectations from everyone.
And when you donāt WIN it feels like you let everyone down after late nights and long days of practicing and perfecting things.
And let me tell you. This kid is harder on himself than any fellow driver, adult or spectator.
He feels these losses for days.
He never ceases to amaze us with his talent, patience, endurance & sportsmanship on and off the track.
Proud doesnāt even begin to convey how we feel about Pierce not only as a driver, but as a normal 5 year old kid with a big dream.
Stay tuned for more races as we start traveling āš¼
Jason Turner for being our right hand man to the most talented & invested crew chief Charlie Barrett. Heās a dad. Husband. Coach. Crew chief. Spotter on the track. Fixer. And so much more!
Special thanks to parents who travel & endure the long HOT days to support his dream.
We couldnāt do any of this without any of our friends, family and race parents!
