As the weather starts to get colder, on super rainy days (like today), and eventually begins to snow (bleh), the garage door entry will open 5 minutes prior to all scheduled training sessions!

This is to conserve as much heat as possible, prevent snow and rain from entering! Also, be sure to wipe wet, dirty, or snowy feet on the entry mat please!

If you arrive early, please text Coach Chris for him to open it up as he’s more than likely already inside!

“Hey, I’m Hunter👋
I’m 28, from Milton, and a Navy veteran—formerly enlisted as a Master-at-Arms in Kings Bay, GA. About 3½ years ago, I decided it was time for a change. Since then, I’ve lost nearly 100lbs through learning how to properly nourish my body and lifting.
I started with powerlifting, then found Kraken and joined the CrossFit community—and it’s truly been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Health and fitness have become my therapy, my confidence builder, and my daily reminder that I’m capable of so much more than I ever believed.
I recently completed my first obstacle race and I’m on a mission to keep trying new things and challenging myself. Right now, my focus is building confidence in my sn**ch as it’s an intimidating lift for me and becoming a better runner. When I’m not in the gym, you can find me outdoors, binge-watching TV shows, cooking, shopping for gym clothes that I do not need, or hanging out with my dog, Cooper. 🐾”

Hunter’s been weightlifting with us for about 6 weeks now, and has made some big strides! Right now some main goals are overall shoulder health and building comfort and confidence in pulling under the bar for sn**ches. In the next few weeks we’ll get more of an idea of some weights to open with for her very first competition in October!

So many coaches, so many programs, so much of so many! Get faster? There’s someone or something for that. Get stronger? Quicker? Lose weight? There’s a coach or program to follow. But..how do you know if the coach or program is absolute and total bulls**t?! Here’s a few ways:

Clueless Coaching:
If you ask your coach a question like “why are we doing this?” Or “what are we building towards?” And they can’t answer you with something credible, or at all, then they’re full of 💩. The coach probably stole someone else’s public program or saw something on social media and they don’t have a clue how to implement it properly.

Constant Injuries:
If you’re always having bumps and bruises from a program that hinder your progress or even ability to train, it’s 💩. Shoulder injury followed by feeling better than the same shoulder injury? Is that cycle constantly happening? Time to re-evaluate who or what you’re following.

Lack of Progress:
You’re not progressing at all, more than likely you’re regressing from prior to beginning with those coach or program.

No Track Record of Success:
This coach or program doesn’t have a history of helping others reach their goals for one or all of the reasons listed previously. If they’re a new coach, it’s understandable they don’t have a coaching record so omit this portion in that situation. If it’s been several years and still don’t have athletes reaching their goals or even making progress towards them then it’s probably a big load of 💩.

Being motivated and wanting to attack your every workout is a fantastic mindset to have! Wanna know what’s more beneficial though? Being disciplined. Sometimes you just aren’t motivated, but you HAVE to be disciplined in order to achieve your goals.

Discipline doesn’t just tie in with getting the work done, but HOW you get it done as well. Are you going through the motions of your workout or focused on every single bit? Was your last attempt for the day a miss or technically break down? Re-evaluate and maybe take it again to end on a good note (depending on how the miss or break down happened).

Another word that can be connected to discipline is trust, as in trusting your coach, the processes of their program, and philosophy. If you think “oh that’s dumb I’m not doing that” when it was implemented into your workout, you’re not disciplined enough to trust your coach. Eventually, that lack of discipline and lack of trust comes to the surface.

Outside of training, discipline once again plays a major role. Our diet, sleep patterns, and recovery habits all have a direct impact on our training for that day and even the next day. If there’s a lack of proper diet, hydration, sleep, and mobility (among other things) there’s a good chance your training isn’t being optimized because of it.

Our body is compromised of so many things from head to toe: muscles and tendons, enzymes and chemicals, nutrients and waste, etc etc. But there’s something we’re going to discuss specifically, it’s a neurotransmitter called Acetylcholine. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that transport important information in the body between our nerve cells and other cells, such as those found in our muscles. Here’s why acetylcholine is important for training and overall health!

🧬Acetylcholine, aka ACh, is a big player when it comes to our coordination, memory, attention, and even our ability to learn. More ACh will also translate to mirror neurons, which aid in visual learning rather than hearing or reading. Basically, it’s “monkey see, monkey do”.

🧬ACh also aids in reaction time, which in sports is extremely important. You have to be able to react to what your opponent does so that you can still beat them in that moment.

🧬ACh and muscle contraction speed also have a direct correlation. If you have faster muscle contractions, also known as Type II muscle fibers, you’re more dialed in to doing powerful, explosive movements at the drop of a hat. Slower muscle contractions, known as Type I muscle fibers, will take longer to do those same movements at equal levels of force and power.

🧬If you’re an endurance athlete, ACh is crucial for muscle recovery and reducing fatigue! You’re training on a bike, on a run, or swim may take a long period of time and low ACh will lead to feeling fatigue at a faster rate
