I am the representative for the bass team. I wanted to shed a little light on the change and why the bass team went from being affiliated with Tug Valley High School to a community fishing club formed with students from the high school. This allowed the students to be able to fish this season and gave more flexibility to scheduling. Due to liability issues club members were not going to be able to fish in the first tournament. The Principal, Dr. Ward, and myself were able to work with Bassmaster to find a way that the school would be released from all liability as it pertains to the functions and operations of the club to allow participation. Now, the boys’ club will fall under the B.A.S.S. Nation insurance policy. The club was being held up on the way money could be spent. Now, they are released from those boundaries. Dr. Ward and all faculty wish the students the very best and hope they excel with their sport. I have been asked to remain as their representative and have agreed to do so. I am very proud of these boys and glad we were able to find a way that they can fish this season. Because it is now a community club, several students from surrounding schools have signed up. We hope this can be a positive move for not just our students but our entire community. We do still have a fishing club at Tug Valley High School with 52 students. Several weeks ago, I took them on a field trip to the pay pond at Naugatuck. They had a wonderful time and caught bass, catfish, and bluegill. We hope to take even more trips if the weather and schedule permit. Dr. Ward has been an ally and proponent of the fishing club at Tug Valley High School and will continue to support our students endeavors of participating in a life-long sport.
