E&A Hoop Dreams Middle School Girls Showcase Top 10 🏀
10. Nala Pittman- Owsley County Middle
Nala Pittman turned heads all day Saturday with her towering height. Pittman, only a 6th grader, is close to 6”0 if not taller. A great shot-blocker, Pittman protected the rim quite well. Scoring around the rim came with ease, and she frequently called for the ball in the post. Her aggression inside will continue to propel her career moving forward.
9. Aubree Smith- Baileysville Middle
Smith, although a forward, showed off her speed with the ball in the open court multiple times on Saturday. Taking off with the rebound, she could get rim to rim in a hurry. With one more year of middle school hoops to go, I look for Smith to be the best player in her county.
8. Payslee Stacy- Crum Middle
Stacy is a pure point guard. Her quick handle and court vision never cease to wow the crowd. On top of that, she is a downtown sniper. Payslee will be starting up her middle school career next season, and I foresee a lot of hardware coming back to Crum the next three years.
7. Kash Hundley- Crum Middle
Stacy’s running mate, Hundley is also just getting started on the middle school scene. However, this girl has played more basketball than most adults. Kash is a hooper who knows how to play the game. A 3-level scorer, and has a super high basketball IQ. She will be a huge part of Crum’s upcoming success.
6. Madi Cornett- Owsley County Middle
Cornett is a strong left-handed guard/forward who put together a good day this past Saturday. She proved she can score inside or out, and guarded her position quite well. Cornett earned runner-up in the 3-point contest. With the combination of Cornett and Pittman, Owsley County should be in good hands for the next couple of years.
5. Belles Goodrich- Hayes Middle
Belles was one of the most talked-about kids at the event! Only a sixth grader, Goodrich showed off her quick first step, and got inside the paint at will. Defensively, she was one of the top guards. During the “Queen of the Court” contest, Belles eliminated a ton of players by simply going strong to the basket and using her speed for separation. St. Albans has some promising talent on the rise.
4. Kali Deskins- Lenore Middle
Deskins stole the show early on, winning the “Queen of the Court” contest. Kali showed off her outside shot and made defenders pay for letting her get clean looks at the rim. In 5v5 play, it was more of the same as she came out scorching the nets in the first segment. “Shooter” is a name opposing coaches will always be yelling any time she catches the ball. I expect her to make an immediate impact at the high school level next season.
3. Makenna Marcum- Martin County
Marcum is a certified bucket-getter. That’s her game, and that’s who she is. This kid can put the ball in the basket. Scoring from outside, or finishing at the rim, she can hurt you in a variety of ways. Playing high school at Martin County the past couple of seasons, she will have no problem being an important piece in her freshman campaign.
2. Jerzee Whitt – Man Middle
Whitt is a hard-nosed player who doesn’t back down from a challenge. The gritty point guard scored well during the event, but what was even more noticeable was all the little things she did. Diving on loose balls, competing hard on defense, she did the things you just can’t teach. Whitt will have a big 8th-grade season for Coach Morris and the Pioneers.
1. Mylee Colegrove- Lenore Middle
Colegrove took home MVP honors and shone bright during the showcase. An all-around player, there is really nothing Mylee can’t do on the hardwood. Primarily playing point guard, Colegrove can score from anywhere inside the halfcourt or break down the defense and get her teammates great looks. Being a guard with good size, she is super hard to guard 1-on-1. Mylee also took home the 3-point contest trophy on Saturday. Colegrove has a super bright high school career ahead, and don’t be surprised if you see her help bring some hardware home to Naugatuck!
