Dear friends and family,
Every year, One Tribe One Day (OTOD) is one of our favorite days here at W&M; it highlights the immense support that our alumni, families, and friends provide for both our program and the College. As we approach another iteration of OTOD this Tuesday, June 23rd, we look forward to seeing yet again how charitable and generous our community is.
With all of this in mind, this year we ask that anyone who would like to donate to the team on OTOD instead donate to an organization that champions social justice and/or provides relief to those most affected by this pandemic. Specifically, we are asking for donations to the following organizations:
NAACP Legal Defense Fund- ”The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.” Donate here: https://org2.salsalabs.com/o/6857/p/salsa/donation/common/public/?donate_page_KEY=15780&_ga=2.252769996.499276164.1592760261-1874776814.1592760261
OutRight Action International- “OutRight Action International fights for the human rights for LGBTIQ+ people everywhere. OutRight works at the international, regional and national levels to research, document, defend, and advance human rights for LGBTIQ+ people around the world.” Donate here: https://outrightinternational.org/
Feeding America- “Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.” “Using the COVID-19 Response Fund, Feeding America is launching national food- and fund-raising efforts to support people facing hunger and the food banks who help them. This includes building an inventory of emergency food boxes and distributing them to member food banks across the country, as well as working to get incremental funding to support other anticipated costs.” Donate here: https://www.feedingamerica.org/donate
For many of us, these are dire times, and we recognize that there are far more pressing matters than ultimate frisbee. We hope that we, both as a team and community, can help those in need. We appreciate your continued support of the team and hope you are all safe and well.
Merry Men
