My goal is to help you develop as a thrower. I offer individual and group coaching, consultation, as well as online video analysis. Please contact me for more information and pricing. The throws have been a passion of mine for decades. I am a former runner up at the California Community College State Championship and two-time qualifier for the NCAA championships in the discus while competing for C
al-Poly Pomona. I have long been a student of the sport and have an undergraduate degree in kineseology. Over the years I have coached athletes from youth to masters divisions. I have worked with collegiate all-Americans and recently coached Illinois High School State Champion Blaze Murfin (59'8 1/2" shot put and 178 discus). In 2015 I coached the Illini West Girls track team to a state championship. Several athletes I am currently working with have won national championship medals in the shot put, discus, and javelin in both AAU and masters competitions. Endorsements:
Blaze Murfin- I had the privilege of being coached by Coach Winters throughout my entire high school career. Under his coaching and guidance we put together a dominant four years of conference, sectional, and state championships and shattering records along the way. His knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge into coaching is the reason why we were able to bring home 3 second place medals and one Illinois State title. My senior year I threw the discus 176'5 and the shot put 59'8, which was rank #48 in the country for boys shot put. All of this wouldn't be possible without the patience and ability of Coach Winters. I still benefit from the work we put in high school, I'm throwing collegiately at the University of Dubuque going into my third year and have accumulated three All American honors in the division 3 level. I highly, highly recommend looking into receiving coaching for you or your athlete by Winters, it's few and far to come by for high school track and field. Megan McElroy- Don was a spectacular coach the four years I had him. When I came into high school, I could barely get over 80 feet in discus. With his help I broke the school record my sophomore year and then added 30 more feet my junior year (140'3) to place 4th at state. He helped coach our team to a State Title in 2015. Over the summers he taught me javelin, which I went onto Jr. Nationals twice and placed 7th my senior year. After he moved to Florida in 2015, he continued to work with me over video and phone and never gave up. With his help, I was able to make it to the Division I level at Central Michigan University where I throw hammer, discus, and javelin. I was able to take things he has taught me and add them into my new coaching, where I PR'd in javelin to 125'10. Anyone who allows Don to be your coach would be making a wise decision. Oh, and he can tell some pretty funny jokes too, so you'll always have fun!
