Happy Labor Day, Whittier! 🇺🇸

In observance of Labor Day, all City of Whittier facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7. This includes City Hall, all Community Centers, and both Libraries.

📚 Whittier Public Libraries: Closed Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7.

🏊 Palm Park Aquatic Center: While City facilities are closed, Palm Park Aquatic Center will be open for Recreational Swim on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, September 5-7, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Bring the family, make a splash and enjoy an afternoon at the pool!

🗑️ Trash & Landfill Services: Savage Canyon Landfill and Athens Services will be closed on Monday, September 7. Regular residential service will be delayed by one day, and service will resume Tuesday, September 8.

☀️ One last splash for summer!

Don’t let summer slip away without one more pool day. Join us at the Palm Park Aquatics Center for the final weekend of Recreational Swim, open Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Labor Day)! 🌊

Recreational Swim
📍 Palm Park Aquatics Center, 5703 Palm Ave.

🗓️ September 5–7, 2026
🕐 1:00–3:00 PM
Cost: $3 per swimmer, cash only!

Before you dive in:
🥽 Proper swim attire is required.
🛟 No floaties or life jackets permitted.
🏊 Swimmers under 50 inches tall, or anyone needing assistance, must be accompanied by an adult.

Our certified Whittier Lifeguards will be on duty to help everyone enjoy a safe and fun afternoon. The shallowest area of the pool is 3.5 feet deep.

This is our last weekend to make a splash at Palm Park this season, so grab your swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen and come cool off with us! 😎🌴

📣 2026–2027 Social Services Grant Applications Are Open!

The City of Whittier is accepting applications from eligible nonprofit organizations providing social services to the Whittier community.

💰 $200,000 in total funding is available
Organizations may be awarded up to $20,000 for eligible program operations and capital expenses.

📌 Before you apply:
All applicants must attend a mandatory pre-submission meeting.

📝 Application deadline:
Monday, September 28, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Submit applications online or via a fillable PDF application.

Submit only one application per agency.

Eligible organizations must have current 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) status and be in good standing. Proposed projects must be completed by June 30, 2027.

Organizations providing mental health services to diverse populations may be eligible for additional points during the review process.

Senior Mingle Day with Downey!

This week, our Whittier seniors visited the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center in Downey, CA, for a day filled with good food, good company, and plenty of fun.

Activities included a birdhouse craft, a delicious chicken Alfredo lunch, and of course…LOTS of dancing! 💃🐦🏠

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so much fun, and thank you to City of Downey Parks and Recreation for hosting us!

We love seeing our seniors get together, try something new, and have a good time! 💙

Hey Whittier! Fall is just around the corner, which means it’s time to register for the Junior Theater Fall Workshop 🎭

Junior Theatre Fall Workshop is a hands-on theater experience designed to help young performers build confidence, communication, creativity, and teamwork through fun, engaging theatre activities.

Participants will get to:
🎲 Break the ice and build connections through interactive games
🤝 Strengthen communication and trust through partner exercises
💡 Put creativity and quick thinking to the test with improvisation
🕺 Explore movement, expression, and ensemble-building activities
🧩 Work together through collaborative challenges and problem-solving

We’re still not over the 2026 Concerts in the Park season!

We had a little bit of everything in the parks this summer, from the Latin sounds of Anything for Salinas and Mariachi Jalisco, to Beatles classics with Hard Day’s Night, Y2K hits with Y2K2K!, reggae from Upstream, beach tunes with Woodie and the Longboards, and country favorites from Faultline. 🎸
