The cooler temperatures of November, December, January, and February trigger the Striped Bass to gorge themselves with shad. This can be some of the best action of the year and it’s all done with artificial baits. Bundle up in layers and come and enjoy a great fishing adventure. With certain techniques even the novice fisherman can have success. Here are some recent photos.

Here are some of my 2025 springtime photos. A lot of water has flowed through the Brazos River this year. We have seen a much-needed influx of Stripers from the lakes upstream make their way to Lake Whitney. I expect to see this Summer and Fall be fairly productive for catching some quality Striped Bass. Gather up your friends and family and come enjoy a great adventure on the lake.

With the winter season of 2025 behind us and the Striped Bass on Lake Whitney on a feeding spree, I expect to see some continued great action for the spring season. Many days recently have been fairly easy limits on some nice chunky, healthy Striped Bass with the largest of the season being 32 inches in length. The winter season proved to be a challenge on many days and was extremely rewarding on others. These are a few of the photos from the 2025 winter season, almost all were caught on artificial baits. There are a few fairly large schools of Striped Bass on the lake yet their population continues to be extremely low and I encourage catch and release to my clients and friends.

February 7, 2025. I talked my brother Jessie into coming down and fishing with me for a couple of hours. We hooked a 31 inch striper on a jig that nearly spooled us on the little reel I had fixed up for him. We were down to the last couple of feet of line before I got the trolling motor going chasing her down. We won the battle! And then we released her to catch another day.

Pat Acker from Arlington, brought his grandson Riley back to Lake Whitney today to catch some stripers. It was a great success in spite of the muddy water and changing barometric pressure. We caught our limit and released several. The stripers are on a major feeding spree right now. Stay tuned. I should be posting some photos of some close to 20 pound Stripers soon. Give me a call and come get in on the action.

Logan, Paige and Brooke Feild from China Springs had a great time catching Stripers on Lake Whitney this morning. We caught 20+ Stripers in around an hour and a half. We kept a few for the grill and release the others.

Mike Dominguez, JJ, and Julio came to catch a few Whitney Stripers with me again today, and it was a success. We got our limit and a few more before the Stripers said they were done. It started out pretty foggy but soon cleared, and it became a beautiful morning to be out on the lake with friends.

Braedon Rudd, along with some of his friends, Bryson McNamara and Cash Baird, celebrated his 13th birthday by striper fishing with me yesterday. It turned out to be a cool and wet day, but we made the best of it. The Stripers cooperated pretty well. We caught our limit plus a few more before we decided to call it quits. Happy Birthday, Braedon! Thanks, Brent

Brad Bartells from Fort Worth came to Whitney to fish with me yesterday afternoon. It was a beautiful, calm, sunny, and warm day, and the Stripers were doing their usual pre-wintertime feed-up. We ended up with four double hookups and lots of singles on the A rig. We also landed a few Stripers and a Bass on my custom-made fly.

This is Cannan and me enjoying a beautiful sunny afternoon last week, catching some shallow water Stripers on flies.
