Hey everyone. Here is a brief-ish report of the club's first semester back.
The club's main goal for this semester was to re-establish ourselves as a recognized university student org / club sport. We wanted to lay a foundation to rebuild the club with the hopes of hosting fun events such as group rides and even getting a race team going again. The club's president has been in constant communication with asst. Rec Sports director Matt Schneider on important matters such as club funding, kit orders (and the licensing hurdles), USAC application, as well as other things. We can say with confidence that we have done a lot this semester, and have big plans for the upcoming semesters!
Good news regarding 2024-25 funding! The club applied for $1500 of SUF dollars and was awarded $1350 due to an excess of SUF requests. Hey, money is money and it's more than 0$ that we had this year. The SUF request was based on a 10 person roster with 3-4 competitive members with projected estimates of ~$5,500 (travel, fees, maintenance, etc) in expenditures and ~$4,000 of revenues (dues, donations, sponsorships). On the topic of donations/sponsorships, we have reached out to several businesses inquiring about sponsorships/donations such as 2 Rivers Bicycle and Outdoor. If anyone would like to donate or knows someone who would like to donate, please contact the president at [email protected]
Here's the thing. The fall semester was a slow one for us, as we expected. The casual season winds down with the weather. We plan on doing some recruitment and advertising in the spring when more people are thinking about riding. That being said, we will be introducing group rides (community members welcome!) when the weather is warm enough. The club president plans on riding these when he can, even if no one shows. Routes will be shorter at first, 10-15 miles no-drop. If we have enough demand, we will also include longer routes, fast rides, and see if we can get some trail action of at the Muir/Emma trails. Hopefully with campus recruitment and group ride exposure, we can attract more members.
Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day!
P.S. I know we got you guys excited for new kit! Don't worry, we are still working the hassles of that out. Matt is helping us out and we are getting connected with university marketing and communications to see what we can do with a limited budget with/without licensing.
Take care everyone, and ride on!
