❗️Should we shut down from throwing?❗️
⚾️ Throwing is a skill that requires control, timing, and efficiency. If that skill is not maintained or worked on, like any other it can reduce or be lessened.
⚾️ When throwing is painful, there must be a reason for it. Whether there is mechanical issues, an irritated or injured tissue, or it is a red flag from the body that is is being taxed beyond tolerance.
⚾️ Catch play and intermediate throwing can be done all year if it is dosed right, and painless. High intent throwing including pitching, long toss, plyos, pull downs should be limited and or shut down for a few months a year.
⚾️ Our athletes are still growing, learning how to move, and getting better at handling stress. They are not equipped for the high load that is asked of them, and we as parents, coaches, clinicians need to educate all involved to help lessen our throwing athletes injuries.
