Racing always tests your limits, and this weekend brought both the highest highs and the toughest lows for us and our driver, Henryk, during Round 2 of the Apex Karting Championships.
In the pre-final, Henryk showcased some of the best driving we have ever seen from him. Starting from 14th position, he put on a passing clinic, tearing through the field all the way up to 3rd place!
Unfortunately, racing can be cruel. In the final seconds of the race, another kart ran right over him. The contact dropped him back to 18th place for the feature race, completely destroyed our onboard camera, and left Henryk with a banged-up shoulder. Thankfully, the kart itself survived the impact.
After the pre-final crash, Henryk's friend, Elliot Cox offered some words of encouragement: “If you can do it once, you can do it again.”
But, as the saying unfortunately goes, ‘that’s racing.’ Henryk didn’t even make it past the first corner in the feature before being pushed sideways and then t-boned. The impact bent his axle, instantly taking him out of the race and ending our weekend with a DNF.
Although the scoreboard doesn't reflect it, Henryk demonstrated on the track this weekend that he has the speed, determination, and skill to run right at the front in a Nationals race. He showed us exactly what he is capable of, and we have no doubt that he will "do it again!"
A huge thank you to Elliot Cox for lifting Henryk's spirits after his spectacular finish was heartbreakingly taken away from him.
