Finally took the plunge and unwrapped the new Hyde XL Pro drift boat that I will be rowing this season. Also got Michael all set up with his new, second-hand Hyde with new trailer wiring and cover for his first year as a Registered Maine Guide. I am truly hoping that we are finally past snow now, especially having removed the shrink wrap from the new boat! I am finally getting excited about the new season!

Third trip of the season. One of a dozen in this size class. All but two on dries. The other two were on swung wets.

2026 will be here soon!

The 2025 season was great fun with a lot of very large fish, often using dry flies. I want to thank all of my clients for a successful season. I am looking forward to next season already and I am starting to get ready for next season, my 34th as a Maine guide. I will have some exciting news soon about plans for next year with a newly registered Maine guide to help me out!

The Canada Lillies are blooming on the river! This is a spectacular wildflower and a welcome sight when out on the river for a great day of fly fishing!

The very first trout that I caught on a fly rod was on this pattern, the Dark Cahill wet fly. Probably time to give it a slot in my fly boxes again this year....

Last trip of the season on Saturday, October 19th. Slow going most of the day but had Peter who is a great angler. He was enjoying being out on the river in some very pleasant late October weather anyway. Last thing in the evening, we spotted a good fish rising. Threw on a #20 olive and put the boat in position to make a good presentation. When the fish porposed on the fly, he was a VERY significant brown. Interesting rise for, rising cross current from left to right. When he felt Peter set the hook, the fish bolted immediately downstream, taking my fly with him! Although we did not have the pleasure of a quick visit and photo, it was a great shot of adrenalin, and something that we both will remember for a very long time! Thanks to all of my clients for a GREAT 2024 season, it has been a lot of fun!

This has been quite a year for Northern Lights here! Last evening was early and quite a lightshow!
