What a day! All of our track and field athletes had a wonderful day at our last All Comers Meet before we had to Summer Games next weekend.
The two athletes featured here at DJ and Kameron. They participated in the first ever Fundamental Events - Track & Field Pilot. While they are not quite ready to compete independently at Summer Games, they (along with their amazing families) have worked so hard this season and have learned so many skills. Watching them progress to the point where, with supports, they could successfully participate and complete the 25 or 50 meter run, Mini-Javelin, and Standing Long Jump was just incredible. Presenting them with their first ever Challenger Medals was truly and honor. We hope to see this event grow and become a regular part of our sports competition schedules.

How lucky we were to have Austin, Maddox, Cole, and Liz with us for tonight's track & field practice! Great kids and very helpful volunteers!

Charlotte and Cole are just wonderful! They have both come out, in dreary weather, to volunteer their time with our track & field team! We wish we could have them with us every practice. If any of their classmates want to join us, we would love to see you!

Today, we honor and thank those volunteers who seek out Special Olympics Baltimore County "just because." They don't have a family member or close friend who is an athlete...... they just want to give of their time and they want to be involved. Many of these folks have their own homes, jobs, and families, yet they still give hours of their own time to complete paperwork, attend trainings, attend meetings, volunteer, coach, etc. Some do this for one sports season per year; others do this all year long. Either way, our athletes and their families are so very lucky to have you!

SOBA is so lucky to have amazing middle and high school students who volunteer throughout the year. Students in Maryland are required to complete 75 hours of service learning/volunteering, but many students continue to volunteer well beyond what is required for graduation. Do you know a middle or high school student who would love to volunteer with Special Olympics Baltimore County? Let us know and we will help them get started!
