Thursday, September 10th, the JV Football team played in a tough game against Livonia Churchill High School. It was an equal battle in the first half with Livonia taking a 7-6 at halftime. The Eagles scored on a Hudson Leslie (10th) TD reception from Quincy Evans. Brennan Baker (10th) and Bryce Borders (9th) also had some hard runs to keep the offense marching down the field.

On defense, Jack Hendrickson (9th), Gannon Driscoll (10th), Zepplin Sherrwood (9th), and Austin Cornyn (9th) were all over the field making tackles and holding the Churchhill offense off as long as they could.

In the end, the Eagles fell short, finishing the game 17-6 in a tough loss. The boys battled to the end and showed great effort all game.

JV record moves to 1-2 on the season. Next week, Lakeland takes on Walled Lake Northern.

Thursday, September 10th, the Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled to North Farmington for the second game of the week. The Eagles took off right away and scored from a one timer from Cole Geromette assisted by Joshua Lacsamana. The Eagles never looked back after that, taking a 5-0 lead into halftime and finishing the game early for a 8-0 win.

The goal tally: Joshua Lacsamana with a hat trick, Wyatt Keiffer had two goals, Cole Geromette with two as well, and Jack Untener had his first goal of the season. The assists were made by Kellen Trost with 3, Brady Humitz with 2, Joshua Lacsamana with 2, and Yusei Tanabe with 1. Colin Sanchez with his fourth shut out of the season.

Up next is undefeated Walled Lake Northern in a monster clash on Tuesday, September 15th, at home.

The Boys JV Soccer team came out on Thursday with redemption in mind after suffering its first loss of the season earlier this week. Freshman Levi Fenwick opened up the scoring for the Eagles, taking the score to 1-0 at the half. After conceding a goal to North Farmington early in the second half, freshman Sam Gebre answered back with a beautiful breakaway shot. Sam decided one goal wasn't enough and added another tally to the Eagles scoreboard, bringing the score to 3-1. After allowing one more goal for North Farmington, Lakeland emerged victorious with a nail biting ending for a 3-2 win.

Thursday, September 3rd, the Huron Valley United Girls Swim & Dive team competed against Grand Blanc. In a close meet with lots of good races, Grand Blanc defeated HVU, 97-83.

Highlights: 12 new personal best swims and 12 new season best swims overall.

Tuesday, September 8th, the Boys Varsity Tennis team traveled to state-ranked South Lyon East for an LVC match. The Eagles battled hard against the Cougars but eventually they lost, 8-1. Number 4 singles player Jason Bodle played inspired tennis, winning the only match for the Eagles on the night.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday, September 10th at Milford for a match under the lights at 7 pm.

Tuesday, September 8th, the Boys Varsity Soccer team hosted WLW in a clash of Titans. WLW came in undefeated and the Eagles with one loss. The scoring came within the first couple seconds as WLW took the kickoff and shot from midfield and scored. The Eagles fought back with a goal from Joshua Lacsamana assisted by Brady Humitz. WLW capitalized on a mistake from the Eagles' defense which put WLW ahead 2-1 at halftime.

Once again, the Eagles came out of the half with fire. The game-tying goal was a scramble scored by Cole Geromette assisted by Wyatt Keiffer. The Eagles took the lead from a beautiful cross from Joshua Lacsamana to Brady Humitz for the goal to put them up 3-2. Wyatt Keiffer applied the insurance goal off a corner kick from Kellen Trost. At the final horn, Lakeland won the privotal match-up, 4-2.

Lakeland moves to 5-1 on the season, and the Eagles take on North Farmington on Thursday.

Saturday, August 29th, the Boys Varsity Tennis team participated in a quad tennis match with Utica Eisenhower, Armada, and Grand Blanc. The Eagles finished 3rd in the competitive quad.

Number 4 singles player Jason Bodle got his first win of the season. The number 1 doubles team of Sarthak Bhandiwad and Erik Nechwatal Fernandez-Coto got their first win of the season as well. After being down a set, number 4 doubles partners Kipton Huff and Matthew Blackburn came back and won a marathon 3 set match!

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, September 8th at South Lyon East.

Tuesday, September 1st, the Boys Varsity Soccer team played their first home game of the season in the scorching heat taking on Livonia Stevenson. Lakeland came out flying and Jacob Dobrin scored off a beautiful cross from Brady Humitz. Locking things down on defense, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Jacob Dobrin once again scored off a pass from Yusei Tanabe to take the 2-0 victory. Colin Sanchez earned his second consecutive shutout in net.

Tuesday, September 1st, the Boys JV soccer team came out strong to open the evening of our first home game against Livonia Stevenson. Despite extreme heat leading to a delayed start and shortened game length, the boys played tough and maintained their undefeated record with a scoreless 0-0 draw. Goalkeepers Kyle Bialo (9th) and Yousif Al Freeji (11th) earned high marks for refusing to concede a goal throughout the game.

Thursday, September 3rd, the Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled through the storms and played Livonia Franklin HS. The game was tied at halftime with a nil nil score. After a pep talk at half, Joshua Lacsamana scored in the first 40 seconds, assisted by Yusei Tanabe. Joshua added another goal, assisted by Cole Geromette. Then Cole Geromette added another for good measure, assisted by Tyler Bryngleson. Lakeland headed back to storm-ravaged White Lake with a 3-0 win.

The Boys JV Soccer team also braved the tumultuous weather to earn an 8-1 win over Livonia Franklin. Alex Gill (11th) and Sam Gebre (IA 9th) opened up the scoring with two goals each in the first half, helping the Eagles to a 4-1 halftime lead. Domination continued in the second half with goals from Nico Lulgjuraj (IA 10th), Alex Gill for a hat trick, Silas Mecham (10th), and Shumith Das (IA 10th).

Both teams return to action against WLW on Tuesday, September 8th at home.

The Lakeland Athletic Department sadly announces the passing of Dave Browne, Huron Valley teacher and coach at Lakeland and White Lake.

As an educator, Dave never wanted anything more than to see his students succeed and grow as individuals. As a coach, Dave reflected the highest ideals of scholar athletics: integrity, teamwork, commitment, and passion. In the words of multiple people who coached with Dave, “he did things the right way.” Dave’s steady, down-to-earth, calm presence helped numerous students, athletes, and employees of Huron Valley Schools experience success in many ways. For years, he selflessly dedicated time to the people of this community; he will be deeply missed
