This morning we rallied some of the best helpers we could find and spread mulch around our newly planted bushes and trees to help hold in moisture and control weeds. After painting the second half of the court and installing our bike racks and trash cans, this project will officially be complete.
As our big kids, niece, and nephew helped my husband Casey, I followed behind my one year old picking up trash as we walked. Watching this project unfold has been such a cool experience, and it reminded me of some wise words a rural community developer recently shared with me.
While discussing future ideas for our town, she said, “Sometimes when I reflect on my career, I wonder if I would have had more of an impact if at each meeting I had attendees just bring a brush and paint something!”
I love a data driven plan, but sometimes there is value in not knowing all the steps or answers and instead having a little faith, a little courage, and just doing.
It’s been a joy watching these courts come to life. We’re grateful the project is drawing to a close, but seeing the courts filled nightly has simply been awesome. As we finish this project, I am so glad we brought a paint brush.
