Every year, Character Built Fitness reaches out to a local agency that helps with families during the holiday season and help provide them with gifts and other necessities that will help brighten up their Christmas. The below is a list of families that Character Built Fitness will be helping out. If interested in participating, please let me know and let’s put a smile on these families faces.
Thank You,
Mark Bassett
So here are some stories for a few of our families; again whatever your network can provide is just such a gift in itself.
Family 1:
My client is a female high school student in her sophomore year and she lives with her mom and 4 brothers. Currently, they are fearing being evicted from their cockroach infested 1 bedroom apartment because mom is struggling to work in the restaurant industry with reduced COVID hours. They are looking for alternative apartments around the area, but most would require my HS client to take on a part time job in order to help with rent costs- she is struggling with remote learning and has to help manage her brothers’ remote learning, meaning some days she doesn’t even get to her own homework until midnight.
Their requests are listed below(although my client has said they do not need Christmas gifts this year):
Boy(age 7): new shoes (size youth 2) and lego
sets
Boy(age 6) new shoes (size youth 2.5), and a “big stuffed animal plushie”
Boy(age 14): cozy blanket and cross necklace
Boy (age 18): laptop or desktop computer for college classes
Girl (age 15): Canon camera for photography with memory card
Mom: Walmart gift cards for groceries or cash to help pay electric bill
Family #2:
Single mom with one 10 year old daughter; they currently live with family to pay down debt and try to purchase a place of their own. Mom recently was in a car accident (not her fault), so she has car expenses in addition to legal fees while going through a custody battle with her child's father. Additionally, the child has had ongoing health issues since age 2 that have required multiple surgeries and have left her with a disability. The family just recently recovered from COVID.
Girl (age 10): Size large clothing, likes to dance and play video games, loves animals
Mom: cash to help with bills or gift cards
Family #3:
Single mom with two boys; also living with multiple family members in a highly stressful household. Family is low-income and one son has suffered from crippling anxiety/depression episodes since early childhood (he is now a Freshman in high school).
Boy (age 4): likes video games and sports
Boy (age 15): a Playstation 5 or Cyberpunk2077 video game
Mom: gift cards for groceries or cash for bills
Family #4:
Guardian is Grandma with two boys after the boys witnessed their brother and father get murdered last year. The boys' mother passed away a few years ago from illness. Boys have ongoing issues with anxiety/PTSD and grief.
Boy(age 8): likes the color red, video games, the Bulls, basketball, board games and money
Boy (age 9): likes video games, sports, reading and anything involved with art
Grandma: gift cards or cash to help with bills
