Double checked and triple checked, I think it just needs an 11 year old wheelman that goes by the name Longshot Luke.

We hadn’t planned on racing at Round 2 and 3 of the Desoto Motorsports Park Piston Cup Series in Louisiana this past weekend. Unfortunately, there weren’t going to be any “little” cars there to race. Then, this past Wednesday night at 8:30 pm, we got a hot tip that the current leader of the Texas Outlaw Series, one Dude Nicholson, was going to be there. If you want to be the best, you have to race the best. We weren’t going to miss the opportunity. A mad dash to prepare ensued and Friday night Mom, Dad, Luke and the dogs were wheels up for “super duper East Texas”. Full disclosure, the “hot tip” came from Dude’s dad, Boodrow. He’s the same guy that inexplicably keeps helping his son’s competition (us) go faster and faster, and look good doing it! I can’t put into words how grateful we are for all of Team Duh Huh’s support!
Saturday practice felt good and then things heated up as the sun went down, wheel to wheel under the lights! It was a straight up match race between Longshot and Dude. People were excited to watch them go at it, Luke ahead for the first few laps, and then Dude edging him out the last couple, finishing within seconds both heats.
Sunday was cool and cloudy to start, we made an adjustment to the front shocks, but other than that we were hoping for a Dude spin out, or a little something to give us an edge. The flag dropped and #14 made it through the first corner ahead and the view never changed. It was like he had a Dude trailer hooked to his back bumper. Any little hiccup and he was going to be toast. The second race was a repeat of the first, unbelievably.
Since we started this wild journey what we wanted was a chance to battle for first, and this weekend was our chance. I hope these two boys battle for first for many years to come, it was awesome. As a bonus, Luke got to go on a couple of ride alongs in Wild man Elliot’s Honda Talon. Elliot is the same age as Luke (11) and battles it out in the youth 1000 class. These cars are capable of 70+ mph! We joked that one of two things would happen, he’d get out of the passenger seat with wet pants or the family bank account was about to take a hit. He proudly claimed it was the latter.
Our Buggy Batallion family is so great, loved spending time with everyone at an absolute blast of a track. Ricky Parker and the crew are killing it in Desoto, I know it’s going to continue to grow. “If you build it they will come”. He has a literal “field of dreams” in his front yard. Also, Lee Knowles sponsored Luke’s class, and he earned a crisp hundred dollar bill! We have a quick turnaround, this weekend is the Triple Crown at the Texas Outlaw Series, wish us luck!!

We had a great time with our Buggy Battalion group, Desoto is still Luke’s favorite place to race so far!
