When I first bought Wheatland Fitness, I took a huge gamble. There were no books to go off of, the software running the gym wasn't very efficient. I had no idea what I was getting into, and I didn't know anybody. When I first took over, I kept the old hours. Even though they weren't good hours, I didn't want to throw off anyone's routine. I was waking up at 3am every day, driving from Sacramento to Wheatland, just to open on time (5am) and staying until closing (9pm). That's about 16 hours for those counting. I had some help with opening and closing after the first month, but those long hours made me lose at least 15 lbs.
I was driving to Wheatland from Sacramento every single day. Then the key fob system got installed, and things got more automated. But I didn't stop coming up to Wheatland.
I have come to know my members very personally. I don't just come up to fix the treadmills or sweep the floors, I love seeing all of you. I've had conversations with members where I totally lose track of time, next thing you know, we're chatting for an hour. I have routinely driven up from Sacramento just to get one member a key fob, because they told me they were struggling with the app. I respond to calls, texts, and emails at all hours of the day (even if I shouldn't). A member texts me saying they wanna change the station, I do it.
I take member feedback very seriously. I want Wheatland to have the gym they always deserved. You get the quality you'd find from a corporate gym, with the personability of a small town.
Why do I do all this? Because I'm the one who drives over 30 minutes, so the people of Wheatland don't have to.
I didn't just pick a gym in Wheatland because I happened to live here and its convenient for me. I made sacrifices because I saw a small town desperate for a good place to workout.
Wheatland Fitness has become my pride, it is Wheatland's hidden gem. And Wheatland Fitness will always always always have an owner who cares in me. Come by, and if you catch me, talk to me. I love getting to know every one of you. Never again will the people of Wheatland have to leave town for their workouts.
