I had the utmost honor & pleasure of custom crafting this one of a kind wearable devotional body oil & ritual oil for the fabulous Stretch Armsbong !

While it’s true that specific deity veneration isn’t necessarily central to my witchcraft practice (for no reason other than the land spirits and I are just really tight and get a lot done 😉), as a collector of myth & story, the gods and goddesses are certainly no strangers to me.

When Jenny reached out asking if I would craft her something for the Morrigan as a practitioner she trusted, I was excited to get to work.

We consulted for a bit, discussing what kind of talisman she was looking for, what she sought to accomplish (communication? offerings? protections? power?), and some of the qualities she wanted to channel.

Based on our human conversations, intuition, and more-than-human communication, I landed on creating a workable ritual oil, treated as mother to then craft a wearable body oil.

I really loved & enjoyed this process, and am certainly always open to (and calling in!) more of these custom magical workings & collaborations.

So you wanna be an herbalist? AWESOME!

But I do hope along with loving making potions, growing medicine, wandering through the woods, and building a life in relationship with plants…

You also love spreadsheets, regulations, taxes, dishes, emails, and washing those 900 jars you saved 😂

For real though, modern herbalism is a strange little dance between the magical and the mundane. But maybe that’s part of what makes it cool! (Idk I’m trying to justify the time I spend doing paperwork tbh)

Upon the last bright moon, I found a cheeky green hornworm nibbling my tomato leaves to n**e sticks.

I could have killed it.
But with a humble garden built for more than just myself and ravenous curiosity, I instead gathered it into a little terrarium to see what old magic would brew.

Barely 2 days later, the creature had buried itself beneath the soil and disappeared.

For weeks, there was nothing to see. For these little faeries do not display their alchemy like beloved butterflies. Rather, they dig down deep into the silent soil of darkness.

In the underworld, the worm surrendered its crawling body to the mystery. Giving its all to the liminal void of becoming literal goo with no real promises; only instinct & trust.
And, In the light of the next bright moon, it emerged as something else.

A hawk moth; resplendent in its delicate winged, nocturnal, and made-for-gardens of the night body. Sharp eyed & sharper tongued, it became a creature set to take its first feed from transcendent trumpets, now ready for nectar with depth that matches its own.

There was mutual recognition, for we both understood that we are the same.
A mirror of the worm and moth both, and of the liquidated portal of what lays between.
How many transformations require us to be buried for a while? To dissolve, molt, and become unrecognizable.

In a mythic lens, the darkness is not where things go to die, it is where they are made again.

There are whole worlds being woven in the dark. So as we find ourselves in hidden seasons, may you remember that you will indeed have grown wings.

In today’s capitalist, colonialist, imperialist, and puritanical society, we are taught to be one recognizable & palatable version of ourselves.

But the witch knows better & that the wild does not work that way.

To be alive, whole, sovereign, and thriving is to be capable of transformation.

Under the autumn equinox, we’ll explore shapeshifting as an ancient magical art and as a liberatory practice of remembering the wild, many-faced self beneath the skin.

As I return home from the career achievement of speaking at Salem Witch Fest & we also still find ourselves in this bizarre eclipse portal of shake ups & re-routes, I wanted to share something I wish I heard more of.

I have the incredible fortune, honor, and privilege of living my dream every single day. I mean, I do absolutely work my ASS off, but I get to reconnect people with purpose, belonging, & nature. I get to make potions in a practical magic-esque apothecary. I get to teach herbalism, and magic, and spellcraft. I get to grow medicinal plants and cultivate rewilded spaces among humans and nature alike. FOR MY JOB!

But if you asked me 15 years ago if that’s what I thought I’d be doing, I’d cackle in your face in the absurdity of it. I’d have a hundred strange paths to walk first, tbh feeling like dogsh*t about pretty much all of them.

But I’m here to tell you that I really did get here by following the failures and saying “now what”. I didn’t know the result, and the way was winding and blinded by mist. But following that stir inside, the glimmer in the dark has been worth it beyond measure.

If you’re in the rot & ruin, I see you.
And I’m here to tell you that I see future you riding the dragon of your dreams that was born from the muck. 🖤

WOWWWW selam , what can I possibly say to verbalize such an experience?!

While any words I write feel like they will fall short, still I extend my utmost gratitudes to this entire community.

From , , and the entire Witch Fest Team (TA’s, volunteers, sponsors, etc.), to the unbelievable diversity of presenters, to every single one of the attendees…I give you my deepest bow of thank you’s.

Being invited to teach amongst a living pantheon of some of the most knowledgeable & wise practitioners in the occult arts is an honor I will bring to my grave & beyond.

And to leave with new spells, new friends, stronger connections, and the memory of a FULL room of interested eyes as I poured my plant loving heart out are things I won’t soon forget.
