The Wolf river will likely crest today .The parking lot as well as the boat ramps are inundated. You can launch a boat but you will need knee boots.I have been watching the Shiocton camera for the last hour, and have seen a few females going up but I think the majority of walleyes are now in the marshes doing their thing. I have heard reports of spent females being caught, but I think these are early birds My guess is that the return run will commence later today through the weekend .I've had good luck using a 1/4 oz bucktail jig but if you're fishing deeper water or faster water you might consider a plain jig and minnow combination or river rig.

Good Morning! We are OPEN! There's still a little ice flowing down the river, but the ramps at the boat landing are clear and the parking lot is good. There are reports of fishermen catching some Walleye! Stop on in-We'll be here until 7pm.

Things are changing rapidly on the Wolf now.The actual spawn will be winding down and as the walleyes start their down river journey they will be on the lookout for an easy meal.Spent females began showing up late last week,we should have a few more days fishing for them before the majority of them are back down to the lakes. The males usually hang out in the river for about two weeks longer than the females.Other species are waking up now too.I caught my first channel cat Saturday and I've heard a scattering of reports of white bass. Sturgeon watching should be in full swing this week up on the sturgeon trail in New London.

Mixed reports these past few days, most people having some decent luck. Generally smaller males, (good eaters) with a few larger females mixed in, I've had a few customers who have caught spent females. We are approaching peak spawn, and I expect the return run to be in earnest by late this week or next weekend. Most females will make the trip in the course of a few days, males will hang out for a couple of weeks.I am still using bucktail jigs tipped with a small shiner, and having decent results. The crawler bite will commence with the return run.The river is currently tall and warming very slowly

Fishing has slowed somewhat on the river, smaller males,(12 to 14") are more common now as well as female fish I fished last night,(evening) and caught two 14" males,as well as a sturgeon. The wolf river is slowly dropping, and with the weather forcast the water temp. will too.Things should improve later this week.

It's beginning to look like it will be a good walleye run this year. Most fishermen are reporting better than average size as well as numbers. The weather forecast looks to be cool, windy and wet,in other words, typical walleye fishing weather, so bundle up.I did not see any ice yesterday so hopefully that's behind us now. Other species are beginning to show up, I've seen a few sturgeon jumping,(wallowing more like) and suckers have shown up. No wake buoys will be out soon, in the meantime respect other fishermen and property. Good fishing, and stay tuned!

Fishing continues to be good on the Wolf river, most people are catching walleyes. The water level has been holding steady at a pretty much normal spring level, but we could use an inch or two of rain.In my experience ,(25 years) the spawn occurs about the 10th to the 15th of April ,that should give us a good couple of weeks of pre-spawn fish.We are running a special in the shop ,buy two dozen shiners and get a free 1/4 oz. bucktail jig, dyed and tied right here at Gill's Landing bait.

Still some ice coming down, but the walleyes are going up. Fished yesterday evening with Dickie ,(my no. 1 help in the bait shop) .We caught 5 walleyes in the 15 to 17 inch range. Dick used fatheads on a chartruse jighead ,I used 1/8 oz. blue and chartruse bucktail with a small shiner.,one worked as well as the other. One walleye had 20 small shiners in his stomach, another had 2 bluegills , and the third one was empty. The boat launch is in good shape,(the pier is not in yet) and we have seasonal boat launch stickers in the shop.

Fished yesterday evening with Al, one of the new owners of Gill's landing bar, great people and hard working too ! Although they are limited by Waupaca co zoning as far as changes and improvments you will be suprised by what a good deeeeeeep cleaning and a little paint will do.They are currently upgrading the cooking equipment and plan to open later in May. Now for the river and fishing report The Wolf is rising slowly and the ice continues to break up . As the ice moves off the river temp will jump up a few degrees . Last night Al caught one on a small blue jig head with a shiner, I caught two on a blue and chartruse bucktail jig tipped with a small shiner, all fish in the 15 to 16" range ,we were out from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.Not very many people out yet but the fish are here.

The wolf is open from just below the railroad bridge to at least the first bend below the parking lot. I fished for about an hour this afternoon without so much as a sniff. That will change soon enough. If you decide to take the boat out I would suggest fishing between the bridge and the parking lot, because if the ice above the bridge lets loose you can make it to the landing. The river has come up about a foot and a half, but it is still somewhat low.Walleye fishing on lake Poygan this past winter has been quite good,so I am optimistic about the spring fishing. The shop will be more or less self serve to begin with depending on how busy it is .We currently have shiners ,fatheads and crawlers in stock, the shiners are in short supply and running small this year. They are best used on a bucktail jig for a larger presentation ,or just use fatheads,(they"re just as good ). Stay tuned !
