I feel like winter is finnaly loosening it’s grip, and spring is coming. Which means fishing is the next activity in line. The costal ports open this Saturday, with lingcod and seabass being the target. I will start running those trips April 1st from Westport.
I want to give a few updates on my season plans.
1. I am bumping prices this year. Fuel, and increased operating costs are the main reasons. Prices are as follows:
Halibut/Lingcod trips are $450 per person.
Salmon/Rockfish combos are $300 per person.
Rockfish/Lingcod trips are $250 per person.
Deepwater Rockfish/Lingcod is $350 per person.
Albacore trips are $500 per person.
2. We have added some new weapons to the aresenal, including a boat load of Edge Rods. I was never a rod snob, but after fishing them on a few trips last year, I feel they are leaps and bounds above the rest. Also coming this year for the halibut & deepwater ling trips are ELECTRIC REELS. We will be running Daiwa Tanacom 750’s. We will also still have traditional hand crank reels available for those who want them!
3. I have re-spooled all the reels with Izorline Fishing Products braid and mono. I have been using there line for a few years now, and have been very happy with it.
4. Possibly the biggest, and most exciting change is another new boat in the works. I started charter fishing in a , and have found that there is nothing equivalent. I regret selling the Prospector a few years ago, and had to make it right. Construction is beginning on an “old hull” 33’ walk-around later this summer. It will be powered by triple Yamaha 300 outboards, have a whole pile of Furuno Marine Electronics, TimeZero Navigation Software, and most exciting a WASSP sonar. Radar Marine Electronics is helping put all this together. It’s going to be a game changer.
We have a few halibut dates left in May, so email or call to get on the calander. It also looks like salmon season will be 7 days a week this year, beginning either the 3rd week of June or first week in July. Last year was epic, and forecasts are a hair better this year.
Attached are a few pics of this winters boat projects. The crew Little Hoquiam Shipyard shipyard added some side stiffners, split the fish box lid, moved the fuel tanks, and modified the engine bracket. All of these changes have positively affected the performance of the boat. It’s finnaly dialed!
