August Summer Camp!!

The Department operates and maintains Bisceglie-Scribner Park, Morehouse Farm Park, the Middle School Pool (Phone 222-2589/221-6360 x 3703), municipal tennis courts, and playing fields. Programs include summer camps, after school classes and a full sports program.

Injury Prevention

I could talk all day long about how I believe cross training makes you a better overall athlete.

But probably more importantly is the development and strength gained across the entire body to aid in prevention of a possible future injury.
It reduces the overuse of muscle groups.

Today, Ivy tried ice skating for the first time. We (me) are hoping that this helps her during the upcoming season as well.

And now that I’ve been in the teaching arena of youth sports for over 25 years, then ice skating sounds a lot like riding bike. Brian was an incredible instructor, and the cues he was using sounds a lot like the cues for learning how to ride 🚲.

She’s exceeded the dream.

5 years and 5 months.
She’s kind and nurturing.
She’s fierce and persistent.
She’s great at leading and delegating, but equally ready to help.
She loves makeup, bikes, swimming, skiing, music, dolls, and painting.

And she recently asked me when does she get to drive a car. I’m afraid to blink at this point. 🚘

except when she’s tired. Ok, I still love her then too.

We are afraid.

And it’s difficult to lead an authentic life when you hear and allow all the chirping to come into your thoughts.

Scientifically, fear is meant to keep us safe.

Then there is . It looks very similar to good fear, but it keeps you on the treadmill of mediocrity.

We create fear to keep ourselves from changing. (Read it again)

But in my process of learning to let go (faster), is also recognizing that everything does indeed change. It’s like fighting an uphill battle.

When I can label my fear, and bring more awareness to it, then I can focus on the energy to do something about it.

Side Note: Daylight Savings is coming. Begin to make your workout and nutritional changes now. Don’t wait and make all your changes at once. This is me 5:45AM this morning.

Grounding.

Join me just about every Thursday if you want.

Many of my clients have seen me only wearing flip flops,for shoes, to do my work in? Only to watch me take them off and go barefoot and play.

Grounding Techniques:
Walking barefoot
Lying on the ground
Submersion in Water

I crave that which I’ve always done. I rarely wore shoes growing up. (My poor mother). She had to compromise as I said would wear them, but with no shoelaces.

Lying on the ground.
I would take my pillow and blanket and walk right out our front door and just lie in the grass until I would fall asleep.

And the water…. Fortunate enough to grow up with a pool.
Holding my breath for a very very long time was my specialty.

Somethings are constant throughout your life. This is one of them that I’m glad that has persisted.

Undoing & Unloving

Ego Love vs Authentic Love

In light of
We spend a hell of an amount of time on teaching our children the negative ramifications of smoking, underage drinking, texting while driving, but we aren’t doing a good enough job of teaching them about what loving relationships look like.

And I believe these conversation begin very early.

Ego Love.
I believe we have all participated in this love at one time or another. It’s hard not to have done so. You are with them because they make you feel good. But this love can often become possessive and controlling. And them knowing there is no place for manipulation and/or possession needs to be said out loud.

Authentic Love means that each of you have space to show your true colors. Authentic love is freedom. And where there is authenticity then both partners can grow.

I don’t believe us modeling our healthy relationship is enough. Friendships and Relationships are complex in nature.

They need to hear your stories and/or experiences with friendships and past relationships.

Start talking.

The least spiciest 🌶 of us all, Graham.

But he has always taught us all about being brave and fearless.

Since I can remember he’s been so brave, told older kids not to pick on his older brother, and would lay down his life for Ivy.

Today was his special day. And if you want to test how brave you are, then go do the ropes and zip line course.

He sprinted through with no hesitation. (He is the one that has had stitches twice and 2 broken arms).

😬 I had to keep reminding myself that I’ve jumped out of a✈️ and that Bungee Jumping off a bridge in on my bucket list.

Fun fact: His hair feels like silk. I tell him it feels like butter 🧈. And I couldn’t stop petting him as an infant 😂.

I remind them that my love is relentless.

I’ve always told them that they were born from my ❤️ first. I just had to wait patiently for them to arrive.

I dreamt about her since I was her age. I was to have a girl with brown hair and colored eyes. And here she is, my Ivy, brown hair and green eyes.

They love me. And I love them.
They drive me crazy. As I do to them.

We love and play hard in our house. But, I no longer want to wrestle 100lb + boys. Yet they want me to, which means I have to.

Because when will be the last time they ask me? Just like when was the last stroller ride? When was the last time I tied their shoes.

Children.
They were my dream.
Now the letting go part.
So they can pursue their own dreams.
