Running a fishing business isn't always fun and games, but it has (almost) always been worth it to me.

Unfortunately, it isn't spending all day every day out on the water fishing...and when you are, you are usually testing out products.

Social media is full of "gurus" telling us that we need to monitize our hobbies. I call bull. If you enjoy fishing, enjoy fishing and dont feel pressured to make money off of it.

Life is full of enough stress and pressure, it is okay to just enjoy some things. However, I would never discourage anyone from starting their own lure business if they wanted to. It is a lot of fun and you get to meet a lot of really cool people in the process.

Shout out to all of the other small business owners trying to make it. I am rooting for you!

State of the bag!

I'm hoping to start sharing what I am taking with me on my fishing trips (big and small). This was an impromptu trip last week where I was able to wade a new stretch of river that I had been meaning to try out.

Old Man Miller

This pattern was born from our collaboration with Buzz’d Baits 🍺 🎣 and stuck around, making it into our regular lineup! Since launching it a couple of months ago, it has become one of our best sellers here in the Midwest.

Great for the clear lakes and rivers that are abundant in Northern Michigan, the brass blades reflecting light to match the amber in the skirt.

I finally had a chance to test out my Black Diamond Equipment Fineline Rain Shell over the weekend during a fishing trip where we were poured on for 6 hours straight.

The verdict: This shell outperformed my expectations in every way.

👉 Breathable even in the humidity.
👉 Stayed dry well beyond what was advertised.
👉 No durability issues despite hooks, branches, and launching the boat.

It isn't the cheapest option on the market, and yes it is designed for climbing and hiking rather than fishing, but it was 100% worth the investment.

After 6 hours of driving rain, getting back into the truck for the drive home and actually being comfortable and dry (not sweaty, not covered in rain) was a real treat.

Sometimes we get so caught up in gear that is "designed" for a specific sport, that we overlook legitimately great products and brands. Sure, Black Diamond Equipment isn't a fishing brand, but their gear has served me well in my fishing adventures.

If you are in the market for a great rain jacket, this is one to seriously consider.
