Tragedies unfortunately often bring back into focus our own realities, even those we don’t want to acknowledge or confront.

A Monroe 8th grader “died at their home this week via suicide”, per the students’ principle. Not a new story, not an unfamiliar story, but a story we need to stop reading about and a story we need to change the ending on together.

These are the causes the Weston Adult Soccer League has been fighting for for the past 15 years and these are your causes too. – You and your family have a huge stake in this!

Mental health wellness is what we are after. It’s a broad term but you know it when you see it or don’t see it as the case may be sometimes

Our challenge this year is to raise $25,000 by May 26th so that a generous anonymous Weston donor will triple our amount with another $50,000 to fund services, treatment, counseling and care at the Child Guidance Center of Mid Fairfield Community – this is a big part of what they do, they are the front line, they are good, and they battle this battle every day in all of our communities, we must all help, we have the easy job.

Details on our event are below – we could care less if you play soccer. We do care however that you care – thank you – Jon & the members of WASL

For several years WASL has been extremely active in raising awareness and money for causes related to youth, adolescent, and young adult mental health, wellness, and emotional stability and support.

We understand those that wish to harm others or themselves are in need of professional care and comfort. We understand those that feel isolated, unworthy, and ashamed are in need of mental health professionals and strategies to guide them. We understand an eating disorder isn’t always about an ideal body image and bullying isn’t always about trying to prove how tough you are, something else is happening, something needs an adjustment, someone needs counseling. WASL has tried to help fill the void between cost and consumer to make these things a reality and that is why we are unbelievably proud to Partner again with our favorite Fairfield county agency; The Child Guidance Center of Mid Fairfield County!

We have been given a unique opportunity to really make an impact this year through a 2 for 1 matching donation challenge from an anonymous donor (is there truly anything more charitable than being anonymous about it?)

If WASL and friends can raise $25,000 in donations the anonymous donor will contribute $50,000 for a total donation of at least $75,000 – HOW CAN WE NOT DO THIS????

Now the details:
Our tournament will be on Sunday, May 26th from 8:15 AM to Noon. We will accept 68 players with 17 on each team and each team will play three (3) fifty five (55) minute games. Lunch will follow at noon for all players and their families on the Weston lower turf field. The minimum requested donation to play is $70. We know much work needs to be done so anything above and beyond that if you are able would be greatly appreciated and much needed! As always and equally important we ask for community members and non-players as well to consider supporting this year’s most worthy organization.

Checks are to be made out to The Child Guidance Center a 501(c)(3) org. and sent to me; Jon Pressman at ...... Reply “in” if you are playing plus your shirt size and if you wish to be paired with a friend or relative on your team. Please also reply “in + 1,2,3,” if you will be joining us also for lunch afterwards with your family or alone. (If for some reason donation by check does not work for you we direct you to a giving page here for online donations.
