Athlete Spotlight... Meet Marlo!
Marlo brings the fun, the spice, and the energy every time she walks into class. She is constantly pushing herself to be better and never backs down from a challenge. Recently, she stepped way outside her comfort zone by signing up for a CrossFit competition and absolutely crushed it 💪🔥.
We love having Marlo as part of our gym family and appreciate the positivity and support she brings to everyone around her. Keep being awesome, Marlo!
1. How long have you been with AACF or doing CrossFit? I started with group fitness in 2011, but in 2015 I was looking to change things up, so a friend talked me into trying CrossFit. I was instantly hooked, especially anything with a barbell. I joined AACF in September of 2021, and right away, the coaches made me feel at home. They are always there to help me modify moves or push me a little further when I need it, and that’s still one of the main reasons I love being a part of AACF.
2. What is your favorite movement or WOD? Deadlifts for sure. There’s just something awesome about seeing how many plates I can load on the barbell. Plus, it’s always helpful to be able to carry the cooler to the boat.
3. What can we find you doing outside the gym? Most of the time, I’m hanging out with my husband and our 16-year-old daughter. If it’s summer, I want to be outside as much as I can— going for walks, golfing (even though I’m not exactly good at it), but my very favorite is being up north, spending time on the boat with friends and family. I like to say I train all winter just for summer!
4. What is something you learned to do at AACF you never thought you could? Pullups, finally! When I first started CrossFit, my goal was to get a pullup by age 40. It took until age 50, but thankfully it finally happened!
5. What are your fitness goals? Number one is just to stay healthy. I want to sleep well, feel good, and keep doing what I love for as long as possible. Basically, I’m training now so my future self will thank me later.
6. Anything else you’d like to include? I do complain a lot in class, but between you and me—I actually love it, especially with a great playlist! The positive encouragement from the coaches and members is amazing! Our gym family is the best part, and I really do look forward to coming back every day. Some days are a little humbling, but other days I feel like a total rockstar. My motto is, "Just show up." Even if it’s not my favorite workout, I’m moving and doing more than I would have if I had skipped! You can do hard things!
