After a knee injury ended her years of running, Julie Lillycrop came to Studios at Downtown looking for a low-impact way to stay active. What she found was more than a workout. She found a supportive community that made her feel at home from day one.
What originally brought you through the doors of Studios at Downtown, and what has kept you coming back?
I wanted to get back into a workout routine, but I needed something low-impact that still delivered results. I had been a runner for years, but a knee injury put me out of commission. After researching the benefits of yoga, I decided to give it a try.
I looked at a few studios, but Studios at Downtown stood out because they offered a Beginner Yoga class that fit my schedule, along with a two-week trial.
I was really nervous walking into my first class, but Heather was AMAZING! I was hooked from day one. She created a balanced beginner experience that gave me plenty of room to grow. Very quickly, I realized there was something special about the community here. Everyone is welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely wants to see each other succeed.
How have Yoga and REV helped you navigate life outside the studio?
Every instructor delivers both a great physical workout and a great mental workout. Through Yoga and REV, I’ve become stronger in both mind and body.
That strength has given me the confidence to push myself personally and professionally, knowing I’m capable of more than I sometimes realize.
How has being a member at Studios at Downtown influenced your overall well-being?
I feel much more balanced. The community, classes, and instructors have made such a positive impact on my life. Whenever I doubt myself or think a class might be too challenging, someone in the Studios community encourages me to just try.
That mindset has carried over into my life outside the studio. Instead of giving up, I find myself pushing a little harder and believing in myself a little more. The instructors do an incredible job of offering modifications while also encouraging us to grow and challenge ourselves.
If you could thank one instructor, staff member, or fellow member for impacting your journey here, what would you want them to know?
There are so many people at the studio I could thank, but my message would be:
“Thank you for seeing something in me that I don’t always see. Thank you for always showing up and delivering a great class. Thank you for pulling me through when I’m tired. And thank you for sharing your lives with us during class. Those fun stories help all of us feel like family.”
Julie’s story is exactly what Studios at Downtown is about: finding strength, challenging yourself, and having a community beside you every step of the way. ❤️
