Story Time by Joseph Banting;

During my early school days there were two things that I was in sync with.
1: I was always considered as one of the brains of my class; if I’m not the best; I will be counted among the best.
2: I was one year younger than the actual class age so I was either the youngest in my class or being counted among the youngest in class.
I took pride in how smart I was; and how competitive I’m up till this day. To a point that if you beat me the first term just forget about the second term because it’s definitely mine; well until I met MARIAMA BAH.

That kid gave me nightmares; A short story about MARIAMA BAH she join our school when I was in class three and out of nowhere first term results came out and the best student goes to MARIAMA BAH; oh I was devastated and what makes it even worse was finding out that she’s also one year younger than me which makes her two years younger than the actual class age. Oh this can’t be we have to summon the council of elders hey guys we have a MARIAMA BAH situation!; guys started panicking who is she? Where did she come from? I don’t know who she is, or where she came from, but one thing that I know that kid is not gonna beat me again; I was very confident saying that; well long story short she beat me, and she beat me again and again until I was laid flat on my face. To a point I have be friend her; as the saying goes if you can’t beat them you join them! lol 😂

Getting closer to her make me realize that she didn’t actually required long hours of study; all she does was one hour everyday even on weekends and holidays whilst I was killing myself doing four to five hours of study a day. I said to myself she is a natural how can you beat that?; that was a huge reality check for me knowing that even though it comes natural to her she was still dedicated to perfecting her craft which is her brain. That’s why on my six attempts I only succeeded in beating her once and even that I was lucky the feel sick along the way and missed a huge part of the term.

Moral to the lesson is: Humanity can try but nature always win in the end.

My daddy once said to me “son do good with your life, go to school, learned something, and above all ‘make money’, and I repeat make money. He further stated that it’s unforgivable for a man to be broke especially when that man has a wife and kids because it’s only a broke man that will introduce himself to his wife saying “ don’t you know I’m your husband?”🤣 or better still quarrel with his kids saying “ how many times have I told you all to start calling me dad?, see all your mate dae call their fathers dad and you all here calling me papa, Mohamed, Abdul, or John!🤣😀.
