Water propagation can be super fun and to be honest, pothos can stay in water indefinitely! But if you want to pot it up, these are my instructions!

Make sure your roots have roots meaning there is a secondary root coming off the original root.

Pot size is super important. You want it to be just slightly bigger than the roots. Big pots lead to root rot - I don’t care what anyone says, it’s true.

Also, if your pot doesn’t have drainage, get a new pot. I won’t be discussing that further.

Soil is easy, just buy one. You don’t need to make some magic mix with orchid bark, activated charcoal and the tears of a garden gnome. You just need a high quality soil with a good rating and some perlite already added.

Packing the soil into the pot is important - make sure the roots are nice and snug in the pot but also smack the pot to make sure it’s not compact.

You can add some fertilizer or earth worm casting powder - it never hurts but it’s not required.

Water your fresh plant right away, it’s been living the water life and will appreciate the drink.

Bright indirect sun and that’s all!

Happy planting 🌱

Knowing the different between cacti is super important because they need completely different care!

You can’t treat a jungle cactus the same as a desert cactus and if you treat them the same and neither will live long if you treat them the same!

This rubber tree pruning is a many years project. My goal is to continue pruning it into a big lush ball on top and strong trunks below.

So far things are going to plan!

I was surprised by the keiki paste not activating the nodes just below where I scored and added it, but this was the only stem I tried it on and it was the only trunk that produced new stems.

It’s back outside, getting acclimated to the sun and hopefully this Cleveland summer will give my rubber tree a ton of new growth!

I have a few thoughts about monstera that may be unpopular.

I use zip ties to fix them to the moss pole - you can use anything you want. No matter what you use you want to be checking regularly to make sure the plant hasn’t outgrown the fastener.

It’s all the same, Velcro, zip ties, string, whatever - inspect your plants and act accordingly.

I don’t know why they sell monstera as a pot of 10. These plants are massive and one in a pot is more than anyone needs in their home.

I don’t use chunky soil. Every monstera I’ve ever potted in chunky soil is either mad or doesn’t grow. I use my basic mix with a lot of perlite and it’s happy.

Don’t be scared of your monstera - they’re not fragile, they root like crazy and if you give them the right light they’re gonna get so big you’ll wanna charge them rent.

Happy wrangling!

I can’t always share the results of my plant care because the plants are not mine. But in the case I have a year and a half of results :)

This jade plant is the plant is the first plant I ever purchased. It’s been with me about 25 years and I’ve never worked so hard to keep a plant alive!

The scale bug saga was one for the books and I’m so glad that’s over!

Plant care is fun even when a plant isn’t behaving the way you’d like!

Snake plant propagations take forrrrreverrrrr but they’re super fun to watch grow!

Fun fact - if you have a snake plant with some yellow variegation like a laurentii your leaf cuttings will not produce the yellow variegation it will revert to green!

Cuttings never need to go to waste when you’re caring for your indoor plants!

Plants are always telling you a story if you know how to listen.

When plants bloom they’re often happy and living their best life, but with snake plants it often means they’re stressed and they need some attention.

Root bound snake plants flower as a survival tactic or because they’re fully mature.

The flowers are not a problem, it’s just information - and if you enjoy the blooms, by all means, enjoy!

But for me - they gotta go!

If you’re someone who throws your orchids in the trash after they’re done blooming, you should stop and try this method!

Kokedama is not hard to do, it’s super fun to display and makes re-blooms easy!

The moss makes watering easy, you can feel very clearly when the moss is moist and when it is dry so you’re able to gauge when to water. When you feel to moss begin to dry out soak it in water and then put it back where it lives.

Simple care and easy reblooms!
