My beautiful mother and best friend returned home to heaven on Sunday. It’s hard to put into words the way I feel about this incredible woman but I am going to try.
At a time when my heart feels shattered, and the tears won’t stop, I will focus on my gratitude.
If you knew Susan…or Susie (as her friends and family called her) you know how fabulous she was.
Mom and I were two peas in a pod with so many shared interests and traits. We logged a TON of time together enjoying power walks, lunch dates, ice cream, beauty rituals, and countless hours spent shopping…skincare and cosmetics were our absolute favorite.
We shared endless conversations…we spoke everyday, sometimes for hours. We shared laughter, tears, advice, secrets and dreams. Mom ALWAYS offered a listening ear to me and was ALWAYS there for me during life’s most difficult and most wonderful moments. She was at every piano recital, track meet, and every game I cheered at.
“Special Days”, love notes in my lunchbox, Mom’s homemade tacos, and mom’s hugs were the best.
Mom was ALWAYS organized, ALWAYS on time and ALWAYS brought snacks.
I get my sensitivity, organization, style, creativity, sarcasm and love of all things beauty, self-care and exercise from Mom. I am so incredibly blessed that I had a stay at home Mom who was so incredibly attentive, nurturing, loving and thoughtful. I am so grateful that in addition to being the BEST mom, she was the BEST friend.
The last several years have been challenging to see Mom manage her Alzheimer’s. But I am so grateful that up to the very end, she was happy. Our last visit together she smiled at me with that sparkle in her eyes and told me “I love you too sweetie”.
As I navigate life now without out our phone calls, conversations and visits, I will continue to look for Mom’s wisdom and guidance in my life. I’ll look for signs that she’s watching over me, because I know she will be.
I will forever be grateful for the gift she has been to me.
I love you forever and always Mom.
