A few weeks back, we were taking a trip down memory lane, digging through some old design files. Aside from nostalgia, we also found a bunch of design goodness that for one reason or another, never made it to market.
This geometric SMMO (Santa Monica MOuntains) treatment was one of those finds. The simplified aesthetic really spoke to our “less is more” design philosophy.
Visually, it just stood out as soon as we discovered this mark hiding in an Illustrator file. The "S" as the ocean, the "MM" as the mountains, and the "O" as the sun/moon. It's simple, but we felt it really captured our backyard.
More miles have been ridden in the Santa Monica Mountains by Franco bikes than anywhere else in the world. That's meaningful to us.
The CMYK treatment was also a nice design touch that fit the simplified ethos.
It felt fitting to combine our passion for our backyard with our passion for design, and of course bikes.
