Answering the question...

How can you change, alter & / or improve what you 'Don’t Know' - how-to-do.?

How can this be accomplished - "best," without first learning how to do it?
-----
Fact: You don't know what you don’t know, until you do...
-----

Plus doesn't it seem logical that if you do a thing - (skill, effort technique, etc) - long enough, and well enough..,
..you'll likely learn more about it as you go forward.
-----

Because with practice, perseverance & persistence we come to realize - (as in become more aware of) - detail - like the

Cause & Effects
Consequences &
Creativity of

"Detail awareness,"

of for instance the inherent timing, distance & balance factors involved.

& Power generation re: F=MA - Down - centrifugal energy -
weight transfer & the:

What, where, why & when of things like;

1. equal & opposite action / reaction effects

2. How to occupy space & thereby remove, displace, and usurp the former occupant of said space.

3. How to technically explode outward and implode on exit & in transition

4. How to augment athletic energy with physical phenomena like:

5. How to create "speed" by being on-time & on-point

6. How to create, generate & manage "energy" through perception, actualization, and projection

7. Understand concepts like: Offensive defense
Attacking attacks
Entering on contact
Throwing Chi Energy
Creating Vectors, Causing Vortexes & optimizing natural gravitational energy.

Food for thought:

These are Masterclass topics

Good, Better, Best…
Never let it rest…
Til’ your good is better,
And your better is best..!
- a teacher’s motivational tip

In ‘Training’.., like in teaching and learning.., we find that efforts are most effective when inspired.

Motivation tends to go hand in hand with the benefits of the effort spent.

But identifying what works best, is basically judged effective only if it produces superior outcomes.

Such is the way of the grind.

Nevertheless there’s value in taking the time to make certain assessments.

Awareness of the details that matter.., is Huge! Like:

Age, fitness, and a host of baseline standards - that btw - most certainly adjust as you go forward.

Balanced expectations with informed benchmarks for performance is another thing.

So too are the reasons why - like for competitive purposes - or for the look.., matters a lot, too.

It speaks to the reasons why we have fitness trainers, coaches and instructors. Plus:

Common sense wisdom says:

“To know more allows you to do more, with what you know.”

That’s logical, right?

"DOWN"

The subject of "How To" add the force of "Down" to technique comes up from time-to-time.

I first wrote about it as a Facebook post some 15 years ago.

For those who know, or have watched it done - it’s a form of “Chi” energy. Scientifically speaking it’s an overt enhancement of the gravitational effect, that’s used for maintaining balance.

And, tactically it’s useful for ‘landing heavy!’

But creating the "Down effect," is another thing altogether

In real time creating "Down," as an expression of technique is more than simply understanding the concept intellectually.

It is about expressing a feeling - that's created within yourself - and then dropping that feeling on the next guy.

It is literally a function of "Chi energy" into which you impose yourself - through your "technical deployment" - (so to speak), and onto another.

That - as performed - goes beyond concept.

We must train our "Chi," - I.e., the energy that we feel as down - to project.., release.., and/or be expressed as technique.

This is where the exercise we know as the "JUMPS" comes in.., as a way to “feel heavy,” as fatigue sets in.

The exercise known as Squats - essentially address’s the same muscle groups, but at a faster pace.

Push Off, quad flex and calf muscle extensions are all part-of-the feeling that’s challenged.

Gravity becomes a weighted feeling that gets heavier - and more challenging - as the legs fatigue and make you feel heavy.

The "Down" effect is part n parcel of everything related to weight transfer - which generates power.

With this post, I’ll take it as a sign, to re- introduce DoWN into the Masterclass class regimen

From the text of:
'Sensei Alan Says' re: Speed ...

Don’t Try - To Be Fast -
Just Be On Time!”

If you've ever been a student in the Goshi Shun-KnM Way, for any length of time, then you've probably heard this about 'Timing - beyond athleticism' - and "Speed" from another Point - of - View….

To explain:

“Keeping Time” demands attention to things like ‘pace’ & rate of ex*****on.

"Pace," in music 🎶 for example is identified by a ‘time signature,' that identifies the speed - or rate - at which the music should be played.

In sports like running and swimming, where the "pace" ends up representing a function of “turn over” - (referring to the rate, or turn over efficiency - I.e., the speed) - of legs and arms technique.

“Speed Comes Naturally," with the focus of attention on maintaining a certain rate, pace and/or acceleration.

Being ‘Fast,’ ends up being a natural consequence of maintaining the rate - (or in other words), on adherence to an intended pace - required in order to ‘keep time.’

It’s automatic.

However, the focus - or point to be made.., “isn’t” on trying to Be Fast!

Rather instead, “speed comes” as a natural consequence of maintaining an efficiently accelerating pace.'

The Point: ‘Speed,’ presents - as the “intent” to maintain “Timing.”

This is important to understand, in terms of the "cause & effect” of Speed - relative to time, place, and circumstance.

Athleticism - (metaphysically speaking)- is basically defined by the intent to show athletic prowess.

And, if you know, or conduct research on athletes - particularly who've attained a level of Mastery in their chosen endeavors -

(or if you - yourself are engaged in trying to be "fast" in an athletic way)

- then at some point you too will come to discover that;

1. with improved ex*****on of refined technique - (I.e., ex*****on with greater efficiencies)...

2. along with optimized physical capabilities - meaning basically to get stronger.., ‘beyond limits' known heretofore -

That “Speed” - comes as a natural consequence of greater strength and efficiency. It's why we train.

Which when you drill down to the cause and effects, … justifies the meaning of the following statement:

Don’t Try - To Be Fast -
Just Be On Time!”

Think about it....!

This most recent Facebook post says it all:

It’s A Food for Thought that addresses real-time concepts of “Attitide and Intent.”

In the opening post of the “Master Talk” series - originally posted in this space back in 2020, when the focus was on the ‘details’ of the MA Blow.

We discussed the details about the structure and efficiency of blows from boxing, as well as the efficacy of strikes associated with other Mixed Martial Arts genre.

This is where the ‘Master Class rap,' about practice, patience and perseverance comes into play, as the effort to make ‘good, better, & better best is an everyday habit.

The experience that ultimately tends to mold you, (the Adept), after copious efforts in the 3-P’s, namely - Practice, Patience and Perseverance..!

“Mastery” ultimately comes with attaining new, &/or additional intel about the; "details that matter."

- but only when you're ready to hear the message.

Because in the main:

Processing new intel - to a point of functional understanding - and subsequent “excellence-on-demand,” can pretty-much vary, from one individual to the next.

To my way of thinking, it has much to do with ‘diversity in perception,’ along with attaining a functional understanding.

Speaking as a Sensei, it’s been my experience that; once practiced, and made more repeatable, the learned “new" subject, (I.e., technique, tactic, etc.), becomes "Known."

But known - to diverse individuals - on various levels, & by different understandings - or by diverse points-of-view.

To be sure, what’s learned by diverse types of folks, can be interpreted, subject to a range of diverse and individually discriminate.., perspectives!

And yet, still be considered - in a manner-of-speaking..,, to be Mastered!

By explanation; this attainment remains at a level of understanding - that references the specific point-of-view about the “details-that-matter.”

A fact that’s quite variable and far too often - taken for granted.

Which in the big picture of teaching.., speaks to yet another conundrum in the overall teacher / student learning process..,

& particularly as appreciated.., “beyond the basics..,” - or for the purpose of the focus here… in the Beyond Black Belt, Masterclass curriculum.

On the real: the process of 'continuous improvement' comes about with the inception of 'new intel,' and generally about what was heretofore previously thought to be known.

If you get my drift..,

- referencing what happens in appreciating skills, concepts, or whatever is that was thought to be known - but is subsequently discovered to have only been learned - up to a point ... !

Keep grinding - there’s more...

Understanding Evolves - history teaches - ‘beyond the first learned point.'

Authenticating freshness requires testing for validation.., proof!

And moreover, that freshly attained ‘awareness,’ often comes on like a revelation - or perhaps like a realization - that’s discovered!

Perhaps due to attaining greater strength, of the realization of extended possibilities, and/or perceptions.

But, efficiencies - in whatever discipline - are nearly always validated by some form of improved ex*****on..,

Regardless of the delivery - (I.e., the discipline, craft, skill or artistic pursuit), the evidence of ‘new and improved’ brings confidence, & factual verification that - (was for whatever reason) - at one point overlooked.

Enlightenment happens.., provided, of course, that we're made to be consciously aware of the possibilities ..

The point; that these efficiencies 'must be experienced,' - first - in order to begin the awareness process.

The bottom line; however, barring blind luck - you gotta do the work, in order to truly get traction in the learning process.

The integrity of the effort builds character.

And in this, is found the crux of the Master Class study, a process where particular attention is given to the ‘detail of the details ‘ - where awareness occurs.

"Creativity" ensues - as does continuous improvement, as part of the evolutionary phenomena we know as “Mastery.”

"You Gonna See All That Your Eyes Will Let You See..”

- Muhammad Ali

This quote was spoken from inside the training camp ring, of Ali, the G.O.A.T, Heavyweight Boxing Champ, to an upcoming opponent, who made an unannounced & uninvited visit to Ali’s training camp..

Reading between the lines.., the implication being that 'everything seen,' is not necessarily so - or appreciated - & not necessarily even understood.

Another quote found in “The Book of Five Rings,” written by the famed Japanese Samurai, Myamoto Mushashi, says:

“Perception is strong. Sight is weak!”

This suggest that what we "see," tends to be defined by what we know... & consequently-
‘Sight without Awareness is essentially Weak!’

True words - when what's witnessed is beyond that which is immediately obvious....
