2026 Westfield Youth Lacrosse Junior Bombers Red team - CVYL Championship
SOUTH WINDSOR, CONN. - The Westfield Youth Lacrosse Junior Bombers Red team capped off a dominant season by capturing the Connecticut Valley Youth Lacrosse (CVYL) Championship recently at Rye Street Park in South Windsor, Conn.
Competing against a field of 48 teams, Westfield finished the season with an outstanding 10-1 record and saved its best lacrosse for the postseason.
After falling to Wilbraham earlier in the season, Westfield earned a rematch in the semifinal round and turned the tables in convincing fashion, defeating Wilbraham 10-2 to advance to the championship game. The Bombers then faced a talented Suffield squad in the finals and secured a 7-4 victory to bring home the championship trophy.
Attackman Arlo Metzger, and midfielder William Bonavita led the scoring effort in the championship game. Throughout the season, Westfield relied on balanced offensive production. The disciplined play, and a relentless defensive unit consistently limited opponents’ scoring opportunities.
Goalie Josten Theriaque anchored the defense throughout the playoff run with several key saves, while the defensive group of Zaiden Jenkins, Cooper Racicot, Jack Dearborn, Liam Lepage, and Lucas Brown played a physical and organized brand of lacrosse that helped Westfield control the postseason games.
The CVYL championship was especially meaningful for a team built around a core group of sixth graders who have played together since first grade. Three fifth-grade players joined the roster this season and quickly became an important part of the team’s success. Coach Bill Metzger praised the leadership shown by the veteran players, who embraced mentoring roles and helped create a team-first culture that carried the team throughout the season.
Members of the championship-winning Westfield Bombers Youth Lacrosse Junior Red Team included: attackers Arlo Metzger, Finn Shea, Steven Smidy, Will Scheller; midfielders Brogan Cefalo, Caleb Gallagher, Cole Hinckley, Cullen Sadowski, Mason Kozik, Nathan Neumann, William Bonavita; long stick midfield/defense Cooper Racicot; defensemen Jack Dearborn, Liam LePage, Lucas Brown, Zaiden Jenkins; and goalie Josten Theriaque.
