Michigan’s championship win was more than just impressive, it was historic.

Before Monday night, NCAA Tournament teams were just 1-50 all-time when scoring under 70 points, shooting under 40% from the field, hitting under 15% from 3 on 15+ attempts, and getting out-rebounded.

Then came Michigan.

The Wolverines shot just 38.2%, went 2-for-15 from deep, lost the rebounding battle, and still found a way to beat UConn 69-63 for the national championship.

This was not a pretty win. It was a tough, gritty, against-the-odds championship performance that rewrote a rare piece of tournament history.

(1) Michigan found a way on a night when almost nothing came easy.

The Wolverines beat UConn 69-63 Monday night to win the national championship, overcoming a brutal 2-for-15 night from 3-point range and getting out-rebounded 43-36. The difference came at the free-throw line and at the rim. Michigan went 25-for-28 at the stripe, a +13 edge over UConn, and owned the paint 36-22 while blocking 6 shots. UofM is 2nd in blocked shots for the season at a 6.1 average!

UConn controlled stretches early and won the battle on the glass, but foul trouble and Michigan’s size changed the game. The Huskies were whistled for 22 fouls to Michigan’s 13, which helped fuel a key 10-4 run late in the first half and gave the Wolverines the cushion they never gave back.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was championship basketball, tough, physical, and won in the margins. Michigan closes the season at 37 wins and finishes the job with the national crown. 🏆💙💛

🏀 Tournament Test

(2) UConn is the only team in this year’s tournament to beat two teams seeded No. 3 or better entering the title game. If they win tonight, make that THREE teams!

The Huskies have been battle-tested every step of the way.

Tonight’s championship matchup feels worthy of the road both teams took to get here.

🏀 Championship DNA

(2) UConn is 6-0 all-time in NCAA championship games.

When the Huskies reach Monday night, they finish the job.

That perfect record will be tested tonight.

(1) Michigan has won its first five NCAA Tournament games this year by double digits.

That kind of dominance in March is rare, and it has carried the Wolverines all the way to the championship game!

(1) Michigan is seeking its **first national championship since 1989**.

It has been 37 years since the Wolverines last cut down the nets, and tonight they get their shot against the reigning power in college basketball, (2) UConn.

Can Michigan finish the job?

**FINAL FOUR: (1) Michigan 91, (1) Arizona 73**

(1) Michigan turned Saturday night’s highly anticipated Final Four showdown into a statement win, rolling past (1) Arizona 91-73 to advance to Monday’s national championship game.

The Wolverines overwhelmed the Wildcats from the opening minutes, building a double-digit lead early and taking a 48-32 advantage into halftime. Michigan never looked back.

Aday Mara led the way with a career-high 26 points and 9 rebounds. Trey McKenney added 16 points, while Elliot Cadeau filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.

The big stat of the night: Michigan became the **first team in NCAA Tournament history to score 90 points five times in a single tournament.**

Monday night now gives us the title matchup everyone will be talking about: **(1) Michigan vs (2) UConn**.

FINAL FOUR: (2) UConn 71, (3) Illinois 62

(2) UConn is heading back to the national championship game after a 71-62 win over (3) Illinois on Saturday night.

The story was UConn’s defense.

Illinois’ worst two shooting performances of the entire season both came against UConn, including the November meeting and tonight’s Final Four showdown. The Illini also posted their two lowest point totals of the season in those same two games, scoring just 61 in November and 62 tonight. ()

Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Braylon Mullins added 15. Keaton Wagler paced Illinois with 20 points and 8 rebounds, and Tomislav Ivisic finished with 16 and 7.

UConn is now 13-1 all-time in Final Four games and one win away from its third national title in four years.
