There’s nothing like natural rainfall to give the course the pop it needs… Although we could have done with a little less!

With a tournament scheduled and the turf still soft, Matt and Kevin broke out the walk mowers. Luckily, we just added two John Deere 260SL units to the fleet, and they’re already being put to work!

Mother Nature got the best of us this morning! The storms let loose just as the first group reached the tee.

Unfortunately, the course will remain closed today due to the weather and will also be closed Monday for a scheduled outing.

There are so many factors in this business—environmental, economic, social, political, personal, and sometimes what we simply call an act of God.

Through it all, we continue checking the boxes at Deerwood Country Club. It was time to replace our 25-year-old bedknife grinder, and we’re looking forward to the improved cut quality and consistency this investment will provide.

Another important piece in place as we keep moving Deerwood forward.

The resident “Turf Dog” was in full supervisor mode today! 🐾⛳

The Turf Team is still playing catch-up as we resume our standard mowing practices following all the rain. Dry cut complete this afternoon, and now we’re chasing the details.

Thrilled for fall, focused on finishing 2026 strong, and already setting the stage for an even better 2027 season.

It’s Day!

I’m honored and privileged to be the Superintendent at Deerwood Country Club. Mastering a property is no small achievement—it takes time, experience, science, instinct, and a team committed to making it better every day.

I’m especially grateful to have a great Assistant Superintendent, Kevin Krause, by my side, along with a dedicated turf team and an incredible network of colleagues and industry partners.

Thankful, too, for the greats of our industry who continue to pass along their knowledge and experience.

Deerwood is our canvas, and I’m proud of what we’re building together.

Mother Nature is holding the cards right now, and we’re playing defense.

With waterlogged soils, sometimes the best agronomic practice is to simply leave the turf alone. Mowing, rolling, and unnecessary traffic can create more damage than benefit when the soil profile is saturated.

Recovery starts by respecting the plant and the conditions underneath it.

For the Turf Team, it’s another day of pumping water, managing what we can, and letting the turf breathe.

A wet start to the day has us keeping equipment off the fine turf. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for the plant is nothing at all.

With the heat returning tomorrow, today is about protecting the turf, minimizing stress, and keeping as much fuel in the tank as possible.

Smart turf management isn’t always about what you do… It’s ’s knowing when to pause and when to strike.
