☀️ Week 1 is in the books, and what an incredible start to summer at the RecPlex!

This past week, we welcomed more than 100 campers for RP Kids Animal Week. Campers enjoyed a week packed with animal-themed activities, a special petting zoo visit, and wrapped up the week with an exciting field trip to the Blank Park Zoo! 🐐🦁🐒

The fun keeps rolling next week with our Get Moving theme, featuring a field trip to the trampoline park where campers can jump, bounce, and burn off some energy! 🤸‍♂️

We’re also excited to kick off our first week of Nerf Camp, where campers will put their skills to the test through games, challenges, and friendly competition. Then, in just two weeks, we’ll launch our brand-new Lego Camp, giving young builders the chance to create, imagine, and engineer all week long! 🧱

Construction is officially underway, and we’re excited to give you a first look at what’s coming to West Des Moines!

Our new multi-use Event Center is being designed to host everything from championship sporting events to concerts, graduations, conventions, and community celebrations—all under one roof.

🥌 BIG NEWS for the RecPlex and West Des Moines! 🥌

We are thrilled to announce that the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex has been selected to host the 2027 USA Curling Men’s & Women’s National Championships!

This premier event will bring the top curlers from across the country to compete for a national title, and the opportunity to represent the United States on the world stage.

Set for January 2027, this championship will showcase our facility on a national level while delivering a tremendous impact to our community through visitors, tourism, and unforgettable competition.

A huge thank you to our partners Catch Des Moines and the Des Moines Curling Club for their collaboration in bringing this incredible event to our community, we couldn’t do it without you!

USA Curling announced today that the 2027 USA Curling Men’s & Women’s National Championships will be held in West Des Moines, Iowa, with games taking place at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex.

Looking for a fun, active, and engaging way to keep your child busy this summer? Look no further than RP Kids Summer Day Camp at the RecPlex!

🚧 It’s official — construction is underway.

We’re excited to share that work has begun on the RecPlex expansion, marking the first step in bringing this vision to life.

This initial phase includes:
• Removal of the existing parking area on the east side of Rink #2
• Underground utility work to prepare for future development

As part of this work, the east lot is now closed indefinitely, as it will become the future home of the RecPlex Event Center.

We appreciate your patience as we begin this process and work to minimize disruptions. This is an exciting step forward, and we’re looking forward to sharing progress along the way.

The WDM City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy during a Council meeting on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The total City tax rate proposed for FY 26/27 will remain at the current rate of $10.80. This action sets a maximum tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.

At the Council meeting on April 20, 2026, the Council will conduct a public hearing on the entire proposed City budget and vote on its adoption.
