Des Moines Fencing Club

Des Moines Fencing Club Bringing the sport of fencing to Iowa. In 1999, the DMFC achieved Iowa non-profit organization status.

Founded in June of 1997 by six people with various levels of fencing knowledge, the Des Moines Fencing Club was soon joined by other experienced fencers and many enthusiastic students. Members of the DMFC participate in local and out-of-state tournaments, as well as perform demonstrations in the Des Moines metro area for schools, community groups, and other organizations that want to learn more about the sport of fencing. These are always performed by volunteers who donate their time to spread the word about the sport of fencing, sometimes even taking vacation time from their jobs to do so. The guiding principle of the club has always been that we learn from each other and teach each other whatever we can. The public is always welcome to come and observe and participate in DMFC practices!

Congrats to our DMFC fencers who competed at Red Door Fencing's season-opening tournament — Allison took 2nd place, with Debbie and Mark also on the strip! And yes, the trophies were actual living succulents. 🌱

DMFC showed up and showed out at the Iowa Games this weekend! Huge congrats to our fencers who took home medals in Senior Saber, and both Senior and Youth Foil. So proud of everyone who competed — it was a great day for our club!

Foil and Epee fencers, take the night off this Monday for Memorial Day. Rest up, enjoy the long weekend, and try not to parry too aggressively at the grill. 🌭

**No Foil or Epee practice on Monday.**

Saber fencers, you’re still on for Thursday as usual.
